It's undeniable that there are often characteristics you can pick up on when talking to people without seeing them hinting at their race and/or background (which can lead to hints about their race, if you want to infer). that's why i put "sounds white" in "quotes" the "first time" i "wrote it", to indicate that the phrase "sounding white" is in itself facetious or not entirely accurate, although it is a commonly used phrase, if not crude or inaccurate. Obviously the more correct way to put it is as I stated it more in the last post: the absence of any telling characteristics in a person's voice should be interpreted as absence of circumstantial evidence of the person's race.
In the US though, which is predominately white, this is often incorrectly, and I guess somewhat or sometimes racistly, interpreted as "sounding white", i think simply because that's the status quo for the majority of white people.


and even if you or your sisters would take offense to it, try walking into a high school and seeing how the thug-style black students treat and talk to the more preppy or mainstream black students. If a black kid has money, dresses nice, does well in school, and/or is liked by teachers, the other black kids are the first ones to accuse him of "acting white"
