lawson and hansbrough are probably the two most dominant players in college basketball and are vritually impossible to stop one on one. So at the end of the day Ellington being the best shooter on the team (1 of 2 shooters on the entire team) is wide open and already setup on the catch all game and they find him. The key to shutting down ellington is the same as shutting down any normal player. Don't leave him wide open. That said, i fyou play unc straight up you are probably going to get killed inside and on the boards and secondary break game. Unless you have a really good offense you aren't going to outscore unc doing that so the gamplan of many teams is clog the passing lanes, help on the hansbrough move, and umbrella lawson from driving.

you won't ever see ellington score more than 8 points if he's at least revored to on catch but if you're not leaving him or green open you're probably getting screwed inside and if you make a gameplan solely to shutdown ellington (like somebody in this thread mentioned) you will give up 100 easily so most teams figure the best bet is to contain hansbrough and lawson and give ellington some open looks to make him beat you.

we are going to lose by at least 25. we have no one to stop lawson, ellington, or green, as long as fells is out. even if we shut down hansbrough... the rest of them will kill us.

yes. even the clemson game. would you rather give a shot thats 75% or a 40%? Obviously after a guy has 36 poitns you need to never leave him open again but they systematically left him open even on the last play.

either that or it will be a huge fast/secondary break and the d naturally guards inside against numbers. Similar situation with this years duke team.

I find it hard to believe based on some of our performances this year that we'll be able to stop Hansbrough anyway. Hickson's 1-on-1 defense still leaves something to be desired and Costner could not guard a can of peas.

you could not be more wrong. unc doens't have great defense but their defense is damn good. They pressure on and off the ball this year more than ever and force turnovers. It can easily be beat by guys who can take their man off the dribble but you aren't going to run too many plays and get in a rhythem against it. We have absolutley no ball handlers. Grant is our only good ball handler and he is Grant.

Ellington is almost never going to get the ball and create. He is great shotoer but nothing but a set shooter. There is no "slowing him down" you either cover him and he does nothing or you don't and he lights your ass up. Theres not much middle ground.

Slowing down Lawson and Hansbrough on defense and just simply getting the ball up the court getting shots off instead of turnovers should be our main concerns.
