You think any pick up games in the ghetto would go anything like an NBA all-star game?

if so, you probably need to culture yourself, or at least not post or talk about shit you know nothing about

the bill simmons article last year about the all-star weekend was hilarious.

i think he referred to it as "black people's superbowl"

None of your BOYS are out there

If Simmons was scoring 20 a night

If Hodge was getting triple doubles on the regular

If Powell led the league in rebounds

If Evtimov was raining 3's like Kapono

If Levi Motherfuckin Watkins was doing anything at all

You guys would all love the NBA

You can deny it, try to to avoid it...but its so true

As twist said earlier, if you don't like basketball in general

and only force yourself to tolerate it to support NC State's team

thats one thing

its the people who love college ball and hate the pro game

who I'm targeting

how bout overpaid half hearted quasi-criminals playing football? baseball? acting in hollywood movies?

let alone the lack of effort you imply is completely false...it always seems like the people who don't like the nba base it off common stereotypes and not actually watching it

I always laugh at the people who say they enjoy the "college style of play" more than the NBA. What? You enjoy shitty quality basketball? Retarded officiating where if you fall down and have a Duke or UNC on your jersey you get the call?

It's one thing if the people like the atmosphere or would rather root for something they have a definite connection to... that is understandable. But the "style of play" argument is just hilarious...

I'll go to a bobcats game every once in a while. . but i'd never pay full price to see them lose.

^^yeah i've been to over half of the bobcats home games this year and the atmosphere definitely isnt like a college atmosphere...thats a legitimate gripe...but if i went to 41 bobcats games and the intensity was like tomorrow's game versus UNC every single game, i'd have a heart attack before the season ended

i just like the fact that in college the players try and compete to make the most out of the 4 years they have with that program. a program that most, i know not all, gain a definitive connection to.

in the pros, if it doesnt work out in 2 or 3 year..oh well fuck it, i'll just slack off till they trade my ass. its just hard to get behind that.

"you fall into the same trap as a lot of nba haters, who equivocate low scores in college to great defense, instead of shitty offense

exactly

an avg nba has far more possessions than the avg ncaa game due to it being 8 mins longer with a shorter shot clock & there being a higher percentage of teams who want to have as many possessions per game as possible (teams in the suns & warriors mold)

obviously higher amounts of possessions leads to highers scores

also ppg allowed is such an outdated way to measure a team defensively...i believe a teams defensive efficiency rating (or points allowed per 100 possessions) is a much better predictor of defensive ability

lo & behold, detroit is ranked 3 in points per 100 possessions and 2nd in points allowed per 100 possessions (they are a distant second behind boston)

not to mention that denver averages the most possessions per game while ranking 4th in defensive efficiency, which goes to show that just b/c you want to run up & down the court doesn't mean you can't also play D

[Edited on January 11, 2008 at 11:22 AM. Reason : not to mention that gem of a game last night b/t GW & StL]

yeah 48 minutes to 40 minutes means 20% more time to score in the nba = higher scores

24 second shot clock versus 35 second shot clock means more shots per minute = higher scores

not being able to have your center stand under the basket on defense the entire game and force him to have more skills than george muresahn = more chances for inside (non transition) baskets = higher scores

Also the longer 3 point line helps higher scores

It makes 3's harder, but spaces the floor the give much bigger lanes for driving players pick and roll-type plays

In college, the middle gets too clogged because no one is more than 20 feet from the basket

It takes the flow out of the game and creates scores in the 40s and 50s

yeh, i mean its one thing to say i prefer college games live due to the tie to your school or the better atmosphere

but to say the actual on-the-court performance in college is better than that in the nba only shows the persons basketball ignorance

that said, the nba needs to take a page from the ncaa & cut down their playoffs....there is ZERO need for a best of 7 opening round, or second round for that matter

i think the 7 game series could be a lot better if they simply aired them earlier...i remember playoff basketball back in the day was often on sunday afternoons...now a Denver Lakers game might start at 10:30 eastern
