Farnold and Trevor were Herb players.

I'll let Lowe get his players and judge them. It's not that Javi is horrible, it's just that he's young. Hickson and Smith are 2 of lowe's recruits, and both have bright futures. I get the feeling Javi was an 'Oh shit Chris Wright isn't coming, we have to have some sort of person who can dribble' recruit.

That said, he could turn out alright. Freshmen are typically pretty bad at that position.

Herb Sendek is the poster boy for mediocrity. If you goal is to hover around the rankings between 20 and 40, consistently be a 7 seed in the tourney and lose in the second round then Herb is your guy. He spent 10 years at NCSU and never really did more than take us into the top half of the ACC. Herb is solid, but unspectacular and foolishly insisted on implementing an offensive system that hampered, not enhanced his players' abilities. The "Princeton style" of offense (or a variant of it) is really best suited to teams that need a gimmick offense to compete against teams with superior talent. It's the basketball version of the triple option; a good choice if you're Navy, but stupid if you're Oklahoma.

After a decade of Herb I think we were smart to part ways, he had plateaued in terms of performance and it was time to take a shot at a coach who could get us further. It was a risk/reward decision. Lowe might fall on his face, but he also might get us to the point where we are once again battling with UNC and Duke for ACC titles.

Herb was a solid coach in a way-too-hard conference. He will have lots of success at ASU, a lot more than he had here IMO. The fact of the matter is that many people, including me, felt he had plateau'd here. We had top talent, he had 10 years, and he couldn't win the elusive ACC tourney championship (The longest ACC tenured head coach not to win one).

The Pac-10 is becoming a good conference, but I don't care what the rankings say... it's not the ACC. Herb turned us into a respectable team again, but overall, I think a decade is long enough to expect to win at least 1 ACC championship, and we never did.

Regardless of what happens with him at ASU or Sidney here, I don't want him back. I think we had plenty of time to see what he was capable of, and I was willing to take the risk of hiring someone else

ehhh, times are changing man.... check out the PAC-10 recruiting for the last couple years and the next couple. Also, Carolina and Duke have had some big recruits pulled out from under them recently by the PAC 10, guys they were creaming over.

^^Maybe so but I don't see how you can argue against the Pac 10.

This year's Pac 10>this year's ACC IMO. It is a solid league.

I think you also have to attribute that to learning from his mistakes here. It's no secret he made some mistakes here that ultimately led to the outcry against him (not by me, but by a lot). He is more involved with the students/fans at ASU than he ever was here. He is a better recruiter now than when he started here. He is a better in-game coach now than he was here.

About the Pac-10... as someone who gets to watch A LOT of Pac-10 games, that conference is STRONG this year. Best in the country IMO from top to bottom. The only weak team is OSU in the entire conference.

For some reason it seems like every year we are saying "it's a down year for the ACC" these days. This year is no exception. Outside of Duke & UNC there just isn't anything there. BC is a perfect example. They are running train on the ACC but are getting beat by the likes of Robert Morris and their New England counterparts Providence and UMass (were lucky to get by URI).
