-if you argue a charge its pretty much immediately taken off
-they are awesome for returns (if the merchant won't take it back for a refund they will)
-it extends the warrenty on purchases automatically
-if you break something within a certain amount of time after buying they refund the money
-if you find a cheaper price they refund the difference
-free road side assistance
-free bagage insurance
-if you lose the card you can still get money or check in your hotel
-there is a lot more things like this and this is only the basic card (the higher one's have even more shit."

yup! plus the extra travel insurance is always useful to have, esp on the gold and platinum cards

i've never been on hold waiting for amex customer service for more than a few seconds and they're native english speakers, articulate, friendly and very helpful... that's hard to beat

(centurion's in a class of its own, but you have to spend at least 250k/year on your card just to qualify -- even then you might not be offered one)

I use BB&T Visa and Discover. But the really high-limit credit cards are made of kryponite.

Any fees? What kind of Amex do you have? What do you recommend for college kids.

Amex blue is what you should get, it's a credit card with most of the benefits, no fees, and up to 5% back. Also they give out pretty generous credit limits.

I have gold, but the higher up charge cards such as green, gold, and platinum do have fees. You may want to not apply for one of these because you're not allowed to carry a balance (must be paid in full).

here's my arsenal

discover: 5% on certain categories (changes every 3 months, sign up for cash back program online; jan-mar is airline, hotel, rental cars)
advanta business: 5% on gas, utilities, electronics (need good credit to apply, lowest apr)
chase freedom: 3% (in top 3 categories you spend) + $50 sign-up bonus

walmart/warehouse purchases and airline purchases do not get cash back on advanta and chase. they might on discover, but i'm not sure -- i'm only getting .25% since i don't spend more than $1500/yr with discover. i probably need another card, just to be a total credit card whore.

I put all fuel, grocery store, and gas station purchases on it

I think I get rewards for hotels, and pharmacies too

I have a gas card and an "Elite Rewards" card.

Let me be the first to tell you that the rewards are not so elite.

So I have a Capital One card that I never/rarely use. Why so much hate for it? Any links/stories would be appreciated.
