^^^ It's a vicious circle. With fewer transactions comes less inventory. K-mart's economy of scale is, therefore, reduced and their per unit cost rises. And, at some point, that rise must be passed along to the retail customer.

Wasn't Roses super cheap like Big Lots? Because Kmart just seems to suck without having any real benefit. 1/18/2008 1:10:30 PM |

yeah Roses was a dime store originally.
K-Mart will go the way of Ames or Jamesway pretty soon. 1/18/2008 1:12:44 PM |

This is the point where someone says "What is Ames and Jamesway" and you say "My point exactly" and then pick an emoticon to go with it. 1/18/2008 1:13:42 PM |

That doesn't excuse it, or mean it makes sense to my wallet
You have a problem moving inventory? Fix it, instead of letting it handle you.1/18/2008 4:13:25 PM |

A lot of their problems can be easily fixed.
The last time I went there I got a cart. At the end of one aisle someone had dropped a pallet of stuff so my cart couldn't fit through. It was a long aisle and I had to turn around and walk back to the other end to get out.
The store is dirty. Tons of items are misplaced meaning you get surprised at the prices when you get to the counter.
A friend told me he saw someone up at the registers the last time he was there and there were no cashiers to ring him up. After a couple of minutes and some "IS ANYBODY HERE" statements the guy just set his stuff down and walked out.
It's obvious they have terrible employees and terrible management (or at least they did the last time I went there.) It could probably be a profitable store, but the first thing you'd need to do is get rid of the slack employees and the management that keeps them around and lets them get away with it. 1/18/2008 4:20:16 PM |

I agree that Kmart sucks mostly. They carry the Martha Stewart stuff, which is mostly overpiced BS, but I really like their towels and I'm very particular about towels.
I bought some NCSU sweat-pant type shorts from the Kmart on Western when I was a sophmore at NCSU. They are so cute and comfortable, I sleep in them all the time. They are still in great shape and they have to be at least 6 years old.

the one across from Phipps? I love that one because for some reason no one parks in the garage and I almost always get a covered spot about 50 feet from the door1/18/2008 4:42:17 PM |

I haven't been to a K-Mart since I was about 11... I went into a SUPER K-Mart, and they didn't even have a motherfucking toy section. Shit's ridiculous.
Similarly, I haven't eaten anything but fries at a McDonald's since I was about 9, when they gave me food poisoning.
...I have a tendency to boycott things based on childhood memories. 1/19/2008 1:29:30 AM |
