didn't read the thread. but good riddance. amedeo's isn't all that good. there are plenty of better italian restaurants around. there are plenty of WAY better pizza places (lilly's, capital creations, mellow mushroom, etc)

"I'm sorry, did you just say "best Italian"???? Thats insulting! What kind of Italian food have you been eating? Amedeo's might be an NC State land mark but please don't insult Italian food and call that good."

Yes I did. In Raleigh. That close to State.

You want to go with heritage as a pre-cursor to knowing what "real" Italian food is like? Then lets throw down G. Don't question my heritage, ever.

While Amedeo's is not by far the best i've ever had, their lasagna and chicken parm are pretty good. Service is shitty, because its run by all you incompetent whining college kids. I kid. Service was never good there, but it did not matter to me. Their food made up for it.

Hmm only Lilly's can beat Amedeo's and this one place off of Wake Forest Rd. near Old Wake Forest. Can't recall the name. Cap. Creations, now there's overpriced gourmet pizza. And Mellow is for all the hippies and people who are trying to be cool on a Saturday night.

Never heard of Piccolo Italia.

i went there once and it was horrible

and obviously it is a red-sauce joint not authentic italian

granted, there arent many authentic italian places around and red-sauce joints can be really good, but amedeos was bad for a red-sauce joint

I blame the management. How else do you run a place with regular clientele and decent prices into the ground? I bet if you looked at their books they are a mess.

The place is fine. Lasagna is delicious, but I've been disappointed every time I've ventured away from that. The atmosphere is fine, too.

For nostalgia, I'll take Brother's though. I probably had my first taste of pizza there. It was always nice to have a place to go where you could count on somebody to tell you what a cute baby you were. Still got a couple places like that in Raleigh left. But still...I miss Brother's.

obviously.

and FYI: to each their own in regards to food and restaurants. the Triangle has some of the best eclectic mix of establishments in each of her cities, I definitely miss it. You don't like Amedeo's? Fine. Not the best? Fine. Its all good. I'm glad at least people have tried it, and are honest about their opinions.

Their food is so affordable, it's ridiculous. Go by any weekday for lunch and it is like $7.50 for Lasagna, salad, adn sweet tea. Anyone can afford that and be so stuffed that they don't have to eat dinner. Their spinach lasanga or lobster ravioli are dank as shit. Their blue cheese is the best you'll ever have, period - so good, I have boughten it to take it home.

Support this restaurant!

Amedeo's JUST PLAIN SUCKS. I tell everyone I know to stay away from that place. When I called them to tell them I had gotten food poisoning from them their reply was "well don't come back then" and hung up on me......I made it a point for a long time to tell everyone that I got sick from their dirty food. If I made a little dent in their bottom line, and contributed in some way to them going bankrupt then I say YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS ! But it was probably just bad management !

According to the bankruptcy filing, Deangelis Brothers Inc. owes more than $380,000 to creditors, including vendors, the N.C. Department of Revenue and the Internal Revenue Service.

Johnny D should have spent more time managing his place then hanging out with the chicks and maybe his place wouldn't be in such a hole. My family owned a restaurant in Queens NY for 45 years so I know the pit falls of owning a place. It isn't easy by any means, but that kind of debt has mis-management written all over it.

Plus they have dirty food

The one time I tried picolla italia, I was so spectacularly underwhelmed I never went back. Struck me as extremely bland and overpriced. To each their own, I suppose.

"<sigh>

you guys don't deserve the campus traditions that were lost over the years

enjoy your corporate campus!"

The problem is not that people stopped patronizing a "local institution" because we're spoiled and don't appreciate tradition. The problem is that the people who run places like Amedeo's and Brother's and Two Guys all seem to think that because they've "always" been around, they're somehow entitled to people's business and can rest back on their laurels, allowing the service and food quality to suffer. They forget that they still have to compete with the other local businesses, and they have all failed to grasp that waaaaaay more students have cars with them on campus than twenty years ago. As a result, now those restaurants have to compete with a much larger number of establishments that are in driving distance rather than walking distance like in the old days.

I'm sure Amedeo's and Brother's used to be excellent restaurants, but their troubles show that they are anachronisms that have failed to adapt to the changing demographics of the local populace. One cannot expect to continue to thrive based solely on atmosphere and a large collection of NCSU paraphernalia and kitsch. There are enough restaurants in the triangle area that small, family-run places have to earn someone's patronage every time they visit.

I didn't read the latter half of this thread. However, Amedeo's isn't that bad. There are certainly worse food places near State that I'm sure most of us have eaten at more than once or twice.

BTW, if Amedeo's ever does go under - or if you want a good Italian place - go to Vic's in City Market. BANGIN.

Amedeos basically microwaves stouffers lasagna and red baron pizzas then serves them. The food is no better than what I can make in my microwave, and the service sucks hole.

a college meal is Ideally <$4 the $8+ that you WILL spend at amedeo's after tip and such is 2 college meals. Then if you want to make the argument for dinner or something you're willing to pay more... well I'd rather go somewhere else and pay more.

I also felt ass raped paying there. The food was decent enough and the service wasn't bad, but I never felt that it was worth what I was paying. It's dark and dingy in there and yes they do have a lot of NCSU stuff but it'll all be auctioned off whenever it does eventually go under and the other local places can pick it up.

I just wasn't ever a fan of this place and I'm all about NCSU traditions and history, but when places get old and sucky it's just time to let them go and remember the good times. It's much the same as eventually you just have to stop going to undergrad keg parties b/c it's just past your time... remember the good times... and move on to new things.(hosting a keg party for your friends is still clearly an option, but that's vastly different from hanging out with people who were never in HS at the same time as you)
