^^thats why you get full comprehensive insurance on a car like this.
good driving record (no tickets in the last 5+ years) + another car on the policy = full comprehensive 500 dollar deductable for less than 800 a year.
And yes, a fender bender in this thing is 15K+, easily. Pretty much ANY accident totals the car out.
Also, the tranny in this thing is fucking retarded strong, at least compared to every other 5 spd ive ever driven. Virtually no slip, super crisp engagement, no play, and a ridiculous grab. I'm sure this will wear over time, but I was and am honestly impressed with how crisp the clutch is. 1/27/2008 5:11:44 AM |

those things arent $70K. they retail for $40K (when they came out, not sure about the new ones) but sold for $10K more than retail.
you can probably find some for low 30's. heck i dont know.
but if you really wanted one you could find one at your price.

^^Even wrecked and damaged cars fetch 25K+. You won't find a well kept Elise for under 35, or a well kept Exige for under 45, Exige S under 50.
They aren't like other cars in that there's only 2500 a year sold, so the resale market keeps the values almost at a standstill after initial depreciation.

Man WTF. I pay more than that for insurance of my 266k mile 15 yr old GS-R ($500 deductible) and the only difference is I don't have another car on the policy. I need to get a new carrier ASAP.
Isn't the Elise a 6sp?

In my humble opinion, only an idiot spends more than 50-60% of his yearly income on a vehicle.
So, you can see how I did the the math there.1/28/2008 1:36:49 PM |

I don't know how wise it is, but it seems to me quite a few people spend 75-100%. But these are people who love cars, they knock out the need for transportation and hobbies/entertainment in one swoop.

yeah, i would say so. are you paying ny or nc rates though? i'm sure that makes a fair amount of difference. he's also in washington state, so rates could be different than nc or ny. why pay comprehensive on something like your car? imo that's a bit of a waste.
for comparison, a similar vehicle (insurance speaking) in nc costs me about $925 a year for full coverage. it could be about $50 cheaper, but i add the maximum umi coverage possible and there's consideration for aftermarket parts.1/28/2008 4:11:09 PM |

It's entirely because I have a 2nd car on the policy (1997 Saturn SL2). It net's me a 60%ish discount on the Lotus, because its in one of the lowest risk categories and its listed as my primary vehicle with the majority of yearly mileage. Without the Saturn, the lotus premium would be double or triple what it is. GEICO is good like that.
Yeah, all Lotus vehicles use the same 6spd yota transmission.

Yep, although in defense, these cars keep their value pretty damn well, so it's not like you are just burning money driving one. Mileage doesn't make a whole hell of a lot of difference in value either.1/28/2008 6:47:56 PM |

The s2000 alone per month was the same as the civic and s2000 for me.
my current insurance is probably as low as a 23 year old male can get...and it still sucks >.<. 1/28/2008 6:51:28 PM |

yea, until you hit the 25yr mark, you dont really qualify for anything in the way of insurance discounts 1/28/2008 7:38:35 PM |

My car is still registered in Wake County
Why do I have a $500 comprehensive policy on my car? For occasions like when some jackass (never caught) smashed my rear hatch window for the fuck of it. And the price of that glass alone, without installation, was over $900.1/29/2008 1:11:45 PM |
