That would be way more fun..
I just heat and cool buildings and try to save owners some $ and help the environment some. 2/1/2008 3:16:16 PM |

i mean, we have emissions standards to comply with... so we help the environment i guess.
but we only do it because we have to
and i actually like the hvac stuff we did in school. i found it pretty interesting. 2/1/2008 3:18:32 PM |

Yeah i'm sure you run into this sometimes too.
But with us Architects can't make up their friggin mind. they keep adding load to spaces, changing windows adding lights, moving walls changing the ceiling..
The math and the energy part is fun but having to move diffusers and RE-run the loads 1209837092 times before the job actually gets built gets annoying.
But good jobs with good architects are fun and then you see a huge building when your done and massive boilers and compressors and what not. 2/1/2008 3:21:59 PM |

yeah, definitely have a problem here with people making up their mind. you'll get 8 months into a project only to have it terminated by the person that started it. it's annoying and you end up wasting a lot of time. but it is really rewarding to see what you designed built in to a machine that's shipped around the world.
and huge compressors and boilers rock. i'm actually designing a ac compressor bracket right now.

My favorite thing is i can see the condensate coming off of a huge cooling tower at the top of hurst tower in charlotte from my living room window... I put that cooling tower there!
i was looking for a picture but it appears i don't have one.
But its cool some of the time the trail goes right into the clouds so it looks like the tower made the clouds. 2/1/2008 3:29:44 PM |
