Post what you want on here and I'll likely either (1) have it and sell it or (2) find someone that has it. My collection is more limited when it comes to discs introduced in the past calendar year, but I've got a lot of spare discs I could stand to part with.

Baring that, go to Play-it-again and scroll through the used discs bin. Get a variety and figure out what works for you.

I used to work there, about 7 months ago! We used to sell back the discs at cost if you find your disc in there, in case you lose it and really, really want it back. Go up there and talk to Andy or John. They really know their stuff. Also, if Innova or Discraft (or anyone else) makes a certain disc, they'll include it in the next order. Screw the Cary store, they're overcharging for a fraction of the selection.

Sorry, but I worked there for a long time, and I like those guys a lot. Plus, it's right down the street from Cedar Hills!

I played at Cedar Hills yesterday and as I was getting ready to start at tee 1, this group of 15-20 12 year olds walked up with a few adults and started their game. Sure it was no big deal for me to start at a different hole, but that is some serious cluster fuck right there.

On a side note, I have been playing since last fall, but only recently started playing more than every other weekend or so. I have one disc, the Dragon. I'll be honest, I bought it because it was a low-end driver, on sale, and bright neon yellow so I can find it I've learned to throw from lots of distances with this thing, but I feel like a better driver and a putter or mid-range would help. What do you guys recommend, personally? I would like to use at most 2 or 3 discs. I'm not good enough to carry around a bag full of discs.

Rocs are the typical mid-range, but I'd also look at the Classic Roc or Discraft Buzzz. For a putter, go with the Aviar.

yea ive played, its a nice private course. there are "2 courses" but i wouldnt have known how to play it the first time i went out except that i had a friend with me who had played it many times before...also, since its private, its pretty much recommended to leave a couple bucks to play out there. i think its on the 2nd tee where you can leave money...and the first tee is next to a house by the road you come in on.

the part of the course where you play the holes in between the big pond and the running creek...that was some tough stuff. youd better bring back up discs.

I've never played doubles at Kaplan. What are the winning scores usually? My guess is around 16 under or so.

Also, what kinda Aviar plastic should I buy (Pro, DX, Star?)? I'm looking for it to be my long range putter/mid range/short range driver.

you usually need at least -14 to get in the money

on rare occasions a -13 will get a disc, but it's not uncommon for multiple pairs to shoot -16 or -17

that's what I figured. #14 is really the only hole that is HARD to birdie. It is decently possible to birdie #5 with a good drive/putt combo.

From what I understand, Raleigh Parks & Rec forced Jim Markov to either move Kentwood Summer Doubles to Friday nights or cancel it. I'm guessing that this was due to youth baseball practices going on at the same time; I hadn't seen many problems with both going on simultaneously, but money talks, and a lot of the baseball crowd has it.

Entry fee at KSD is $3 ($2 toward prizes, $1 to the ace pool). Unlike at Cedar Hills, there are no carry-overs in the ace pool; if there is no ace on a given night, there is a CTP throw-off for it. In that throw-off, anything can happen. A while back, an intermediate woman won two of them within a few weeks, including one where her shot hit the roof of the shelter and took a perfect bounce to land inches from the target basket.

The winning score is usually -16 or -17, but there are nights when multiple teams get hot. A couple of years ago, someone came up to the shelter and started bragging about their sweet -18 winning, only to have someone come up right behind them with (a course record) -19 ... seventeen birdies and an ace!

It's a fun, laid-back atmosphere, and definitely a place for relatively new players to learn from savvy pros and top amateurs. Just one request ... please leave the booze and other stuff at home, as Parks & Rec has cracked down some in the last couple of years.

last year me and another guy were the only pair the whole summer to shoot -18...we had the box the whole round until the last hole we played (#4), cause my friend who was playing in the other pair in our group aced #3 and stole the box from us for the last hole...pretty funny stuff. im not gonna be in town for todays doubles but ill be back next week.

^^the best am/am only gets a prize if enough am/am pairings are out there.

Course redesigning must be a popular past time in Chapel Hill. That course has undergone more facelifts in the past 5 years than ::insert aging celebrity with massive amounts of plastic surgery::

Currently there's 19 holes on the course, including two new holes that replaced the old #1. I'll call those 1A and 1B. 1A is good, but 1B is trouble for anyone that can't through a 300 ft downhill hyzering flick (i.e. not me). #7 has a new basket location you can't get to without either (1) laying up in front of the hoard of trees right next to the basket, or (2) getting obcenely lucky. There is also option (3) hit one of the 12 trees standing within 5 feet of the basket and have your partner make the 30-foot putt anyway (as I did in doubles last time out). #10 is still a stupid hole with the basket in the long position, and the line on #17 in the long position is more of a theory than it is an actual line.

Still, not too bad of a course

I played Renaissance Gold for the first time a few weeks back and was decently impressed. Most of the holes were pretty fun, but the navigation and layout is just dreadful.
Anyway, I shot a +7 (77), which wouldn't have been too bad except five of those bogey strokes came on the same hole. Hole 13 or something, the 900+ footer that comes after the 1000+ and 600+ holes. I went back and forth across the wide open fairway for a whopping 10 on that hole. If my aunt had balls she'd be my uncle I'd merely taken a single bogey I would have finished at +3 for the round, which would have been quite respectable.



Anyway, I'm throwing out the name of the High Country Disc Golf course again. Come visit! Get out of the heat of the piedmont. B-tier High Country Throwdown in July:

I have to completely disagree. I throw a little flexed out S-curved flick. And if you can't do that a slight understable putter straight at the short will park it. Also, I know it's a bitch, but I like that green. Don't make the putt and your disc rolls a ways down.


I haven't played Renny Gold yet. I've played the original and shot a 57 the first time, so I'll take it.(same story as ^ I had a blowup hole and took a 7) I want to find someone to play a round with on the gold course so i don't wander aimlessly for 3 hours. Anyone else in the Charlotte area?

Here is where I tend to disagree with a lot people - to me EVERY par 3 should have a line to the basket itself, not just a line to a PUTT at the basket. Hole #17 gives you a snowballs chance in hell of managing to stop the disc at the basket... much less rnu at an ace. A flick has no line to avoid hyzering out right of the basket. A backhand has a chance, but the line is crazy tight. In my opinion it's not a well designed hole. Tough, but not well designed.


Played the Iron Man challenge last weekend. Five courses in one day. Two of my buddies and I managed to take it down by 1:30pm after starting around 7:15am. I picked up 3rd out of 9 in advanced despite some abysmal scores at Renny and Hornet's nest. Played Kilborne, Reedy Creek, and Sugaw as well - all tough but fair courses. Shot around par on all three.

played out there yesterday again. shot -1 with a stupid double bogey on 13. the line for 17 is fine for me...the hole i really hate out there is #10, cause i always throw the shot what seems perfectly and there is a tree out in the middle of the "fairway" that stops my shot every time on that hole. having a tree in the middle of a fairway around a bend that far up on a hole is ridiculous, you cant tell me people are good enough to throw it around a bend and be able to control it 200 feet away to get around a tree thats like that every time. that to me is the sign of a bad hole. when you can throw a great shot and get punished for it.

^^ That's a major sticking point with me and a lot of courses. If you want to make the hole difficult, that's fine, but there's a definitely line between a hard hole and a stupid/lucky hole.
I hate holes where a seemingly very good shot down the middle of the fairway can be punished by a single tree, whereas a merely okay shot can squeeze by it.

I'm a fan of making a fairway a fair shot. If you suck enough to miss the fairway, then it's your own damn fault and you deserve to be punished for it. But there needs to be a reasonable chance at the disc making it down the fairway. All the time I see holes with legitimate fairways, but then a big fucking cluster of trees right in front of the basket. Skill can get you down the fairway to the clump of trees, but skill won't get you through them - that's luck. Having to aim at a series of five foot gaps 300 feet away is not a skill shot.

A similar situation would be hole 14 at Sugaw in Charlotte (the one where the basket is elevated inside a tree). http://www.charlottedgc.com/images/sugaw/sugaw_14aa.jpg A good shot off the tee pad can get you 20 feet from the basket. Sometimes you're looking straight at the chains. However, if you landed five feet to the side of a good position, you might be looking straight at a tree trunk completely blocking the chains. It's absolutely retarded that a good shot with a 10 foot skip would be such a worse spot than a good shot with a 5 foot skip, given that both are straight in the middle of the fairway.

we used to take our kids for summer camp there, sounds like a similar situation. we were a smaller camp, with a tight budget so disc golf was a free activity we could do that the counselors really enjoyed (at least me)

ahaha #14 at sugaw, whoever designed that basket probably thought it was the coolest thing ever. i hate putting at that damn basket from anywhere past 8 feet away. back to #10 at chapel hill, i played with a friend yesterday, he went first on that hole and threw it bad with early release and it got through a lot of trees on the left then kicked out in the middle for an open 50' shot to the basket. i threw what looked like a good shot but i hit the tree in the middle and kick into the woods on the right, leaving me with a prayer of a shot to get out(i almost made the shot coming out though).

luck holes always piss me off...i played in the eastern nc amateur championship last year at the course in jacksonville...first time playing that course and hole #18 is you throw it well and about 3/4 of the way there you have to get lucky to get through a bunch of trees and limbs to get a putt at the basket...poorly designed hole

I've only played it twice (and about 8 years ago), but Jacksonville seemed to be a pretty poorly designed course (inside a poorly designed city - what a shithole). The first several holes were kinda fun in a Kentwood-esque fashion, but there was nothing really special about anything there. That 1000+ footer was just retarded. Short, short, short, short, short, LOOOOOONG and OPEN and FUCKING BORING. Followed up with a 500 foot walk backwards to the next tee. Thanks for making me throw my arm out and then walk all the back up the damn fairway, assholes.

Hole 10 at Chapel Hill is probably one of the worst holes I have ever played.

At one time they were going to open up the right side of the hole a little more but I don't know what happened to that plan.

Most of the alts at Cornwallis aren't bad, but the course isn't a great course in the first place.

14 at SugarCreek isn't that bad either, but it forces you to be creative with your putt if you are behind a part of the tree. At least it is only one hole and Sugar Creek is probably the worst 18 hole course in Charlotte.

On most courses there is at least 1 luck hole.
