1350 and i love Enders Game, Enders Shadow, Lord of the Rings, Da Vinci Code, Angels and Demons, etc.

and I think i did poorly on the SAT, i still dont know why people say that is high. 250 points away from 1600, pff, maybe if i was 1450 or higher I would have been satisfied.

^ key word prove. I would guess that over 50% of dumb people that do poorly on it have a matching IQ and vice-versa. There's a chart out there somewhere for this.

Edit, first post was ignorant.

"making something of themselves" != "intelligent"

and i would hope that all "dumb people" (not that you can just self define those people anyway) do poorly on it, not just 50%.

is that even what you were trying to say? either way, i'm glad you have such high standards.

"Atlas Shrugged" is in exactly the right position

Not to talk shit to people who like it, they don't necessarily fit this description, but

a lot of fans of the book are intelligent enough to understand Ayn Rand's philosophy, yet still stupid enough to swallow it whole

V changed back, dawg...on second thought it seemed like it was more of a parody sort of post...all good

I seem to recall she wasn't, cause I was going to compliment her on being the best stylist on Technician staff, but then I just had to tell the class...maybe she was there but just didn't want to be recognized

she hasn't responded via text yet.

i really don't think she was in there, though. i've known her for quite a good bit.

yeah, I know she wasn't...cause Dick used to always compare our Technician writings in class, and Jake and I would always compare pieces. If she were in there, we would've compared with her, too. HOWEVER, there was a girl in there, can't recall her name, but she had very similar features to those of Christin.

I feel like I recall years ago you posting on here about how well she writes. I think it was after that fallout with her ex, or maybe just after one of her dating columns (which people incessantly shat upon for whatever reasons).

3 Presto! We have a correlation between books and dumbitude (smartitude too)!"

This actually seems like a pretty terrible way to measure something like this, even if it did actually mean something.

I'm surprised one of his steps didn't say ... Profit!

1360, but some of my favorites from that list stick in about the 1050 range.

If you aren't reading Lolita for the language of it, there's no point regardless of the subject matter.

Myself and most of my friends got in the 1400s or higher...

And we all read humor, which doesn't even show up as a genre on the list of books that make you dumb.

Humor readers are generally successful people who tend to perform well in college. Proven fact.

No, no point at all
It's not a great, famous book which deserves to be read on the merits of things other than language
The plot sux
The characters are boring
The emotions are all hackneyed and untrue
Yep, language the only valid reason for reading it

Intelligence != common sense.
At first, I felt so awesome that The Secret wasn't on there, but then I saw the Power of Positive Thinking, and it made me weep for humanity.

1520 (800 verbal), and I've read and enjoyed books all over that spectrum. Probably my favorite of the ones listed though would be Catch 22, though I've never read any of the 4 books that placed higher on the list. (I do own Freakonomics but I haven't gotten to it yet, my "to read" stack is pretty tall.) I began Atlas Shrugged back in HS when I thought Ayn Rand was the best thing since sliced bread, after finishing The Fountainhead, but never got through it...damn thing just bored me after a while.

^^ I'm going to see a theater production of Catch 22 this weekend

but I only made a 700 on the SAT verbal... I was on drugs, however

I scored a 630 on the GRE verbal

The things you listed are all functions of its language, especially the characters and emotions.
