Lilly's and Pepper's are awesome, I don't know that they are the best in the world and I'm not saying they are, but I love their pizza.
If you really want the best pizza in the entire world, you have to look for the class and originality of Dominos. There, I just finished the argument, because clearly there is no argument that can take down Dominos as the absolute best pizza in the world. In fact, if you want to impress someone this Valentines day, take them over to your local Dominos parking lot and grab a 5, 5, 5 deal. She will surely be floored by your smooth and romantic style and your ability to order not one, but three pizzas. Sharing these in the back of your car in a parking lot is going to get you somewhere. 2/11/2008 9:49:13 AM |

I think Lilly's is pretty damn good. Never been to capitol creations or moonlight, but one good restaurant does not a pizza town make. I like Sylvia's too, better than any of the other Hillsborough spots, but I have no illusions that you can probably get pizza that is as good as Sylvia's in hundreds if not thousands of other cities/towns.

Raleigh has some good NY style pizza places, no doubt. Much better than the Bay Area...
New Haven is the best pizza city in America though. Pepes, Sallys and Abate are freaking amazing... 2/11/2008 12:05:47 PM |

Best Places in Raleigh from somebody who's lived here their whole life.
1 - Amedeo's 2 - Andy's 3 - Lilly's 4 - Sinellis 5 - I <3 NY 6 - Two Guys 7 - Amore's 8 - Stella Mare
When I went to New York City, my goal was to eat the best pizza I could find and when I asked around, everyone said "Go to Sabaros" or howevfer its spelled. I was disappointed but I did find a great old fasioned place in Hunter, NY.
And family is from Chicago, so I've had my fair share of great pizza there too. 2/11/2008 12:55:09 PM |

This is a sorry excuse for a Raleigh pizza thread if nobody's mentioned Piccilo Italia. Their pizza rocks. Me and NyM410 used to order from there twice a week sometimes.
I've lived in NYC for over 2 1/2 yrs and there are a lot of damn good pizza places up here, however I must say that Piccilo Italia and Lilly's is pretty good stuff in comparison.
Raleigh is a good pizza town compared to 95% of the places you could go, so quit hatin'
As more and more northerners move to the metropolitan areas of the south the quality of the pizza will only go up (as it already has)

Moonlight is good, and if you want the super-thin Italian style with cheese that stretches for miles then you need to go to Piccola Italia, but the best pizza place around here isn't in Raleigh...
it's Pepper's in Chapel Hill.
The Ball Park (feta cheese, andouille sausage, and eastern-style barbecue on a pesto slice) might be the greatest thing I've ever eaten. 2/11/2008 1:37:27 PM |

When I took my g/f home and to the city last year (first time) she was all "i want NYC style pizza!"...
She soon realized that there is a HUUUUUGE difference between "NYC Style" and "NYC" pizza-
aside from the difference in sugar content of sauce, quality of ingredients used, 2 huge differences are portion and price... You go to ruckus and get a 24" pizza and spend damn near $25 with toppings,
You go to NY and get a 20" pie for about $7 depending on where u go- 2/11/2008 7:00:50 PM |
