well... I mean the LEAST he could do is not trample all over everybody's civil liberties and human dignity

its so so so so sickening that cops can do this kind of stuff to people and get away with it, and they never have to think about it again afterwards

unfortunately for this one, there was a video camera. but for every one they catch on tape, there are hundreds more that you dont hear about.

beatings, verbal assault, duke lacrosse investigations, etc etc etc

its about time we demand some fucking accountability out of the people who can cost us our freedom. but its never gonna be a big issue until everyones little brother has that happen to them, i guess...

what are you honestly going to do about it. i mean, if you can figure out a course of action that will result in real change, then i'm totally on board. but seriously, what the fuck are you gonna do about it?

know your representatives. write them. write the media. find out where candidates stand on issues like this. attend city council meetings. if the mayor hires the police chief, let the mayor know when stuff like this happens. bring groups. take a stand.

but do it like an adult. dont go around screaming out names and talking crap cause it makes you look bad and its just gonna end up pissing off the cops in question and you're going to end up in trouble. and even though it will likely work itself out in the courts over the next few years, its still a big pain in the ass.

youd be surprised how easy it is to get up and talk at city council meetings. we just did the same thing because of all the breakins in my neighborhood and the lack of police presence, and we had to hire private security (as a neighborhood) to keep enough presence in the area to make the thieves go away. we were there because we had called the cops hundreds of times between us and never saw them patrolling, and we didnt feel our tax money was being spent fairly. because you can go to other parts of town and pass cops every 3 blocks.. even though the incident reports, when mapped out [the guy at the newspaper and i worked on this together], showed crime on about the same level.

its still a pain in the ass, but if you get people onboard, and get the issue in the open, its not that hard. instead of talking about britney spears at work tomorrow, talk about this video. for real

i guess another option would be to smoke yourself stupid to the point where it doesnt really matter

i just gave some pretty straight up answers, and thats how the adults in my town handle their concerns. and your response pretty much sums up what the adults are up against. people who don't care, or don't have enough self-esteem to think that their opinion matters for shit.

i'll be damned if i let the government walk all over me. i'm not gonna go out and do the same stupid stuff i would have 5 years ago, but the mindset hasnt changed.

do you honestly think that's going to change anything. i mean, you posted a rational, well-thought out plan but i really don't believe that will get jack shit done. it just proves how much power the police really have. except anyone who has more power than them doesn't really give a shit so nothing will get done. there's really just nothing that can be done about it over the short term. over the long term hopefully we can ingrain in society a sense of common decency where everyone (cops included) don't feel the urge to shit all over anyone they can. but i don't really see that happening either.

Ok, so tell me how many instances of police brutality jackleg has actually stopped. Does it really make me ignorant to realize that there's nothing you can do to change this? Anyone who actually thinks anything they do will make a difference is kidding themselves. Making a difference is making real change happen and what he talks about makes nothing happen. I'm not a fool for realizing this. Believe me, if I actually thought this stuff would work I would do it. But these sorts of things are happening on an increasingly high basis, so it doesn't really seem like it's doing anything. The cops are not being punished at all and until they do it won't stop. Your actions have proved fruitless thus far.

I think if I were one of the kids friends there, when I was that age, I would have cracked that cop in the head with my skateboard. It would have felt good until the police destroyed the tape and sent me to prison.

Reason number 75987598757659875 not to trust cops.

i feel like most of the ones i know ("friends") would be criminals if they weren't cops.

That's how I read it too, and actually I carefully studied the vid to see if that was the case.

I deemed it was - for a brief moment, the officer has the skateboard in hand and puts a necklock on the kid, driving the edge of it into the kid's chin. At least, that's how it looked to me.

The kids should have challenged the cop to a skateboarding competition, and then when it was all over, they could've agreed to disagree and high-fived.

Mr. Jackleg is right, though. Some people were trying to build a convenience store near my parents' house, and a bunch of the neighbors went to meeting and mess and changed that. It's boring, but it eventually works.

i don't know how it is everywhere, but back in my home town, all the cops are kids that got picked on in school or the kids that were trouble makers. they use their position as a way to "get back at society." not saying that's true everywhere or for all cops... just my experience.

and why is skateboarding such a crime anyway? aren't there are better things for cops to worry about than 14 yr old skater kids?

most of the guys that turned into cops around my hometown were either the idiotic meatheads that weren't good enough to ever get to play football so they hate everybody but think theyre the shit... OR, the guys who did shit tons of drugs, somehow never got caught and were well..again, pretty muchjust fucking retards.

no wonder.

It seems like this officer was trying to bait the kid into doing anything that would result in a charge. It's disgusting. I'm sure if the kid so much as squirmed he would have been charged with resisting arrest, assaulting a police officer, or some other heinous crime. I can just about guarantee this officer has done it to other people in the past and probably won in court when it was his word against theirs. Such b.s.

I know the football players in my high school always used to try and slap each others dick heads in their boxers even when they were in weightlifting class. I didn't have to worry because at that time i was one of the bigger kids in school and the biggest kid owed me a few favors.
