i drank a TON of cranberry juice, eat plain yogurt if you can stand it, and go buy this crap at the store made with cranberry and some other stuff. i forget the name of it. I took all that on point for 3 days and it went away.

I've read in several places that cranberry juice doesn't help once you have the infection, only as a preventative. That doesn't stop me from drinking it if I feel one coming on, but if it's already in full force water is just as good.

cranberry juice will NOT cure a UTI! If you had a UTI and drank cranberry juice and think it's what made you better, you're wrong. The cranberry juice was just a coincidence. That's why blodletting, aromatherapy, Q-Ray, chiropractors, and other such nonsense cures exist.

I can tell when I'm getting one: the first thing that changes is the way your pee smells (it gets that horrible ammonia smell). I always seem to notice that before the pain starts. I know that's gross to think about, but it's saved me lots of trouble.

It's mostly just random and sudden. And unlike all the idiots in this thread telling you it's solely from having sex, it can happen for basically no reason. Women in general are more susceptible to getting UTIs anyway.

Nah, I doubt that means anything at all. 'Cause when you start pushing the fluids while you have a UTI, it gets lighter just from the added liquid going through your system.

Okay so here is the deal:

She said that I have the a bad infection and wanted to make sure my kidneys weren't too tender. Luckly they weren't...and she asked if I had blood in my pee which I didn't, at the moment. I got the meds that everyone gets but since wal-mart was packed it was going to take 1.5 hours to get it filled and I had to go to work. (so I haven't had the chance to get them yet)

Now I am peeing blood...is that really bad? Or is it common for this...I'm also in a lot of pain.

It's not good. You need to get on some AZO standard or anti-inflammatory drugs for the pain ASAP. And yeah, as soon as you get the pills, start 'em.

I skimmed this thread, but I also used to get UTIs super-frequently.

You definitely know when you have one and you should get to a doctor ASAP--mainly so you can get started on your antibiotics because they work super fast in starting to clear it up. Plus the pain pills that make your pee neon...

I have never smelled my pee. They say after aspargus, it stinks. I would have to put my head in the toilet to figure out if it had an aroma or not...

You don't have to stick your head in the toilet to smell the strong ammonia smell when you have a UTI. I mean, for basic sniffing anytime, maybe you'd have to bend down. But the UTI smell is rather pungent.

Noooo it still hurts real bad....hopefully once I get another antibiotic in me then it will start to feel better. I've had one antibiotic and 2 of the pain pills...I just look foward to where I no longer dread the pee.

Yeah the doctor visit isn't that much...but okay here is the low down with my job.

The pay isn't great but the hours are awesome. 20 hours a week, nights and weekends off, super easy for me to get time off. Plus the people I worth with are awesome. I get ~$400 a month, and I try my best to put $200 into savings every month. That leaves about $100 from each pay check to buy gas and spending money. I fill my tank once a week which costs about $40 a tank, so that generally leaves about $20 for spending money on each pay check. The reason I was having a problem with the pants is because I was wanting to find the best way I could spend the least amount of that $20 on pants that aren't going to last me more than a few month.

Sometimes UTIs can be "triggered" by being too dry during vaginal sex. I went through a couple months where a medication I was on made me a little drier than usual, and it aggravated my already UTI-prone urethra.

Peeing after sex isn't that sexy, but a UTI is way less sexy.

Though I've been getting UTIs semi-frequently since before I well sexually active. I've never had a yeast infection though!
