however, carolina fans and the nation alike has the mentality that unc HAS the potential to be ranked #3, therefore, they deserve it. total bs, but that is how they are ranked right now. screw the ap polls, i don't even care to read them anymore.

See, this is where you aren't being objective. They DO deserve it. They have a quality schedule (RPI #5), are 25-2 and tied for 1st in the ACC. Duke deserved to be in the Top 5 too until this past game. It's not about being a State fan to me when I look at the rest of the country, it's about being objective.

yes. duke and unc are tied in the acc, yet the breaker should be that duke beat unc.

plus, last week, duke was the outright #1 holder in the acc, yet, carolina was nationally ahead.

Again, when teams are ranked very close together and one of those teams lose, then the next poll they almost ALWAYS drop no matter who they beat or what their conference record was.

It's proven history and anyone who is claiming "UNC bias" is being absolutely fucking ridiculous...

i'm just saying that in this case, the 'historic' system is flawed. no way should unc gone ahead of duke when duke was winning the acc.

now, since duke lost again and things are tied up in the acc, i could see unc ahead of duke. but not while duke had only 1 loss vs. unc's 2. that logic makes no sense. sorry.

Like NyM said, Duke shouldn't even be in the Top 5 anymore after their loss to Miami. They have 1 more than loss than Carolina with a similar SOS. There's no way they only drop one spot after consecutive losses, especially to unranked teams. At the moment, I would put Duke at #6 behind Memphis, UT, UNC, KU, and UCLA.

NutGrass, I understand what you're saying about the rankings. But, the difference comes down to RANKINGS and STANDINGS. A couple of games ago, UNC was RANKED higher nationally because they were playing better basketball THAT WEEK. But, Duke was a halg game ahead of UNC in the ACC STANDINGS. The standings more accurately reflect what a team has done in their conference so far in the season. The national RANKINGS are supposed to be a reflection of which team is playing the best in the country at the time.

It isn't a perfect system, but that is why a team can lose two games in a row and still be #1 in the conference STANDINGS, but drop four or five places in the national RANKINGS.
