Thanks for the PM. First, I know your boss personally, and both he and I know he has nothing to do with my company. My company has never taken investment from anyone, and for him to attempt to associate himself as having anything to do with my company in such a capacity is insulting. He was the CEO of a failed startup in the area called LIPSinc which raised and then subsequently squandered $12 million dollars, and he was fired by their board of directors and replaced by a guy named Paul Rasmussen who was brought in to clean up his mess and shutdown the company. Paul, however, played an integral role in helping me start OC3, and for that I'm forever in his debt. It's almost flattering, in a way, that he thinks so highly of our success that he wants to associate himself with us. Please tell your boss that Jamie and the team say “hello” and wish him luck.

So, now that the issue has been cleared up, I think we can call this conversation over. Back to Gears of War 2 and chainsaw duels….

Just for clarification...

Said boss never "associated" himself, I just knew he was tied to lipsync but I didn't know details then and I misspoke.

"Launched" was def the wrong word as said boss had NOTHING to do with that launch...he was involved later and didn't do any dev stuff. The folks at oc3 were doing well before he was ever involved.

As for details of hiring/firing, there are two sides to every story but I steer clear of publicly discussing anything like that.


Back to GOW2...is there going to be another awesome launch party for this one too? Are there any details about xbox live? Changing the party system way back when on GOW hurt team multiplayer imo.

I would assume when you shoot someone, its the amount of force the weapon has at keeping the person from moving forward

in gears 1 people would run at you, dodge, run again and just kill you with the shotgun point blank and there wasn't much you could do about it

in gears 2 if they try to pull that shit you can shoot them and it will decrease their running speed. basically they can't bum rush anymore without actually being clever about it

The anti-resell method that Epic has taken on Gears is friggin great, in a way, I like buying used games, but I also hate GameStop. Its one of the most unethical businesses in America IMO.

Yeah I understand what you are saying, and in this case, this is a game that has extremely long lasting value. That's why the anti-resell method is going to work so great with this game. However, being that that's the case, GameStop might sell this game cheap for a resell, which would be good for people only interested int he campaign, and likewise the trade-in credit for such a game would be very low.

That awesome, but the real deal is that they are giving away a code that unlocks 6 extra maps that that can only be redeemed by buying a brand new copy of the game. The maps will never be sold on Marketplace.

I think they are all remakes of Gears 1 maps, so while still pretty cool, its not like 6 brand new ones

And you have to think they'd be selling the maps to those who don't have them at some point

They're including a free voucher with the new games that allows you to download 5 multiplayer maps from the original. I think it will go over well only because it is not punishing consumers, unlike the recent Spore DRM controversy. You want to buy the game new, Great, you get 5 extra (old) maps. Want to buy it used, you can save a few bucks and you won't get them.

I wouldn't be upset if this trend caught on as long as developers do not start including huge blocks of content that would severely cheapen the game without it's inclusion in these "giveaways."

if you are a member of their club or whatever you get another 10% off used games, so it is really like getting brand new games for 10 bucks less. that adds up.

^no it doesn't add up. It costs money to join their club...more than you save per game. so you have to shop at ebgames for used shit frequently to even notice an impact.

it generally costs 15 bucks to join. generally they offer it to you when you are already buying a game that used, which means ur probably spending the same cash then another 10 or so, which is easily made back or break even by 12 months later.

if you are someone who is planning on trading games in, they also give you like 10-20% extra for them as well. it isnt a bad deal at all if you buy a lot of games.

I buy a lot of games but I always buy new because I always buy the game on the street date (or close to it). The other part of it is that I sell my games usually on here vs. trading them in because that is the biggest rip off ever.

I did not hate it, I really liked the campaign (even though it was short) and I plan on playing this one as well. The 3rd person aiming just does not translate well into multiplayer - even though it looks pretty. FPS's just have a better feel when it comes to multiplayer, in my biased opinion.

Once I started playing the original, I was kind of put off by the the lack of effect that the bullets actually have on your opponent. You put about a quarter to a half of a clip of machine gun fire into them and you just get a spray of blood. No real movement hindering or any sense of them actually being shot by hundreds of bullets until they just fall over.

Who knows, it may come eventually. There are plenty of games that the developer originally says will not be available on other platforms due to their current "exclusivity" agreement that eventually make the jump. I think this may have been the case with the original Gears.
