Religion is not a prerequisite for morality.

To pursue my own rational self-interest and be happy.

You're obviously not a Christian, I bet you're out spreading your legs to sin every night too aren't you?"

listen, i'm not a christian, i'm not an atheist. but in this thread you have done nothing but demonstrate some of the hypocrisies that make people wary of religion, and specifically christianity, to begin with. i'm not trying to make a generaliziation against all christians. i know and am friends with some great christians. but religion is often comprised of hypocrites (and so is life in general i guess, this isn't really my main point anyway. lets just disregard that.) and just because you think something is right, doesn't make it so. you're just illustrating how so many theists prejudge others who either don't believe or don't subscribe to their same religion. is judging your job? i thought that was god's job? yes, i realize that there are annoying athiests as well. however (and this is my main point) i'm just pointing out that you are an example of the type of attitudes that push people away from religion.

and yes, i am a huge whore.

Define "morals" No really.

Do it.

Is objectivism the highest moral ground? some people think so.
Is altruism the highest moral ground? some people think so and consider the above tottally immoral.

Just because someone doesn't follow your set of morals, hardly means they dont have their own set.
You eat beef? You just offended somebody's sense of morals.
Eat pork? same thing
Curse? yup..that too.
Look at women who arent covered head to toe? You're immoral by somebody's standards.

Morality based on religion - is a terrible excuse for not recognizing that morality need not rely in belief in any religious system, but only a beleif in core ideas that uphold humanity.

I'm a spiritual person, but it doesnt form my moral framework. Concepts like justice, fairness, equality, and rights - those form my moral framework.

i mean, do you have to have a point to be nice to someone? I mean if all you're doing is following rules to attain some greater good in the afterlife, that's the most selfish shit i have ever heard.

You have a very good point.

anyways, you don't have to be Christian to be a good person; just like not all Christians are good people.

You don't need religion when you have a conscience.

Depends on how you define good and bad.

I think Christians are good only to the extent that they're rational.
