those areas are severe deserts, and they impose some serious construction and operational constraints based on their location alone. Not only are they in remote areas where they would be prime targets for terrorist attack, but they would be subject to all sorts of damage from sandstorms. You can imagine what kind of damage occurs to a mirror or solar cell when you sandblast it.2/25/2008 9:43:52 AM |

Pilgrim's Pride Plant, Jobs Leaving Siler City
Quote : | "The nation's largest chicken-processing company is closing its plant in Siler City and laying off up to 1,100 employees.
Pilgrim's Pride Corp. said Wednesday the closure of the Chatham County facility is a result of soaring feed-ingredient costs resulting from corn-based ethanol production." |

once other forms of ethanol production are developed and scaled up, I think it will become a viable alternate. Right now it's causing a lot of problems. 3/13/2008 1:26:04 PM |

ummm, how about all of the potential candidates? Not just your favorite punching bag
Hillary http://www.autobloggreen.com/2007/11/07/video-hillary-clinton-says-she-changed-position-on-ethanol-beca/
Quote : | "The fact is that when we first had an occasion to vote on ethanol back in the early part of my term, I voted on behalf of my constituents. There was very credible evidence, that it would, if all we did was subsidize ethanol in the middle of the country, raise gas prices on both coasts which would have directly driven up the cost in New York and I didn't think that would be a good idea for a senator from New York and what I have been pleased about and I had a role in this, was to create a much broader base for ethanol. We now have ethanol plants in New York and so the idea that you would have only one part of the country and the transportation cost would be quite expensive because of the way ethanol has to be transported, is no longer a factor. So, I happily support corn ethanol, all forms of ethanol, research for cellulosic ethanol, biodiesel." |
and McCain http://blog.foreignpolicy.com/node/8113 Of course, he was against subsidies before he was for them.3/13/2008 1:43:07 PM |

^ Do you read the links you put up? The blog quotes McCain as saying he "supports" ethanol, it doesn't say he supports ethanol subsidies. In fact, if you go to the piece where the blogger lifted the quote (an anti-McCain opinion piece, not a news article), the original author makes it clear that John McCain still opposes ethanol subsidies.
Or, if you're too lazy, here it is straight out of the horses mouth:
Quote : | "In Grinnell, McCain said he still opposes subsidies " |
http://money.cnn.com/magazines/fortune/fortune_archive/2006/11/13/8393132/index.htm
THIS IS FROM YOUR SOURCE! And the blogger never posts a single quote that negates this statement. McCain has always always always opposed ethanol subsidies. Period.
Thanks for playing. Now, STFU, n00b!
