DT is the clear cut greatest player in ACC history. Every halfway informed and honest long-time ACC hoops fan will acknowledge that.

IMO, there are really only two players that you could make a legit argument for being better college basketball players than DT: Alcindor and Maravich. Bill Walton himself says that DT was the greatest player he ever played against, and the only player Wooden ever discussed by name in a scouting report.

Also, I'm a huge Tim Duncan fan but have a hard time putting him on that list. If he hadn't been stuck with Tony Rutland as his point guard, there is a good chance things would be different. Unfortunately, that severely limited what he could do on the offensive end of the court (most of his scoring came on putbacks of Rutland's ill-advised shots), and how far he would get in the NCAAs. Defensively, he is one of the top 10 all time.

No way could you argue Duncan for the limited space they have left.

Maybe in the top 25, but if he shows up between #8 and #1 the world is coming to an end.

I've never met an informed UNC fan that denied this... and most agree he wins it by a stretched mile. If they admit it, it must be true

BUT THAT JORDAN GUYZ WAS REALLYZ GOOD!11!

People who don't like the NBA don't have a true love for the game of basketball.

There is no way David Thompson can be excluded from the Top 5. Think about what he did in his three years on varsity (the only 3 years he was allowed to play).

73 - Led us to an undefeated season
74 - Led us to national championship, NCAA player of the year
75 - NCAA player of the year.

There are not 7 guys who have accomplished that much even if they did play 4 seasons. Kareem, maybe Oscar Robertson, deserve to be ahead of Thompson. Fuck ESPN. If DT had played for UNC, he'd be #1 or #2.

David beat 'Goliath'....singlehandedly stopped the Giant that is UCLA

That alone should be a guaranteed top 5.

In '73 we couldn't play in the NCAA tournament because of apparent "recruiting violations" Thompson had when playing pick up games in the summer with friends, some of whom were recruits. Of course, some UNC guy narced on us, NCAA banned us from the tourney, DT got pissed and took us undefeated..

I'm reading his biography right now its called "Skywalker". Check it out, its great.

I think Taymon Domzalski should probably be in the Top 5. He had a much better career than DT.

Oh and Constantin Popa... he needs to be in the Top 5 too.

[Edited on February 28, 2008 at 4:57 PM. Reason : 8th is absurdly low for DT... but at least MJ isn't higher. I figured ESPN would be all over Jordan.]

way to go out on a limb there

Bill Bradley's accomplishments:

2-time unanimous all-american player
ncaa tournament mvp
all-time leading scorer and rebounder at Princeton
led his team to a final four

I dont see how he could be ahead of DT

I really do think that espn will put Tyler Hansbrough in the top 6

No doubt...the rest of the list

1. Dante Calabria
2. Cherokee Parks
3. God Shamgod
4. Serge Zwikker
5. Lebron James
6. Todd Fuller

....soon to be followed by a NCSU-Nation bitchfest as to how much Todd Fuller pwnt Cherokee and Serge and how much all lists suck.
