No they can't. you could have a card that is valid by a number, but expired and you no longer have an account. thats why they need the expiration date. as for the code on the back, only some places require it.
he's a fool for canceling it since if his shit did get stolen he'd have a very easy way of tracking it down.3/7/2008 10:08:57 AM |

hahaha i admit it, i think the band on their commercial is super cool, and definitely not wack
and i always thought the expiration date was the key to making sure the card number comes from the correct algorithm. something like a salt in encryption. but i dunno, im not credit card fraud guy, i just heard all the numbers were connected mathematically, excecpt for the first 4 numbers which define the bank

you're a fucking idiot, the number is there to be used. When places have problems with fraud they have to do more to prevnt fraud. Asking for cvv2 (number on back) is one way.
Also, if they steal your $$ you call your bank, dispute it and get your money back, its super easy 3/8/2008 6:39:56 PM |

when I worked at a pizza place we needed expiration, but didn't ask for the 3 digit code.
and if the card turns out to be stolen, it's not like we have the phone number and address of the culprit or anything ] 3/8/2008 6:48:12 PM |
