that would never happen with me. i guess if the girl was a shitbag it could be boring. but i'll talk no matter where. i dunno i just like a laid back atmosphere, but not quite as laid back as KFC

Not going to completely disagree with that....but it just seems too cliche to me to ask a girl out for coffee. But I do like how the atmosphere and overall laid-back situation that a coffee date creates.

However...I'd still stick to the "going out for drinks" as a first date. Nothing like a couple alcoholic beverages that lets the inhibitions loose a little bit and maybe some good information will fly out that you won't get out talking over lattes. You can also find out whether or not she's a lush on the first date. Nobody likes a lush.

Thumbs down to the point. It would be nice but smoke from the bar area drifts over to the eating area. It's also very loud when the bar is busy.

^Yeah...I live in a town that bans smoking in bars and restaurants...so I don't have to worry about that.

And I prefer drinks during the week. That way you're not pressured to stay out all night (work or class the next morning) and the bar isn't usually that busy.

Tuesday/Wednesday date night out for drinks...FTW.

If you want a short, not too expensive, no big investment date, go for lunch not drinks.

#1 reason why I NEVER "do lunch" for a first "date":

- There's a set time limit. If things are going great...oh well, gotta get back to work/class. About 95% of the time I meet a girl for "just drinks"...or even a dinner date...it always goes on for something longer. Whether its a another bar for more drinks, or going out even later to meet friends, etc. The point is you always have that option. But with lunch...it's lunch, then its done.

Anyways...just my opinion. Plus...I'm a big fan of the movie "Just Friends" where the "lunch date" is an automatic trip to the "friend zone." I don't 100% agree with it...but I can understand it.

in a related food / restaurant gist, where is some place interesting that is on the faster side for a early dinner? (5:30 or 6 at the latest, pretty much after it opens)

not fast food, probably not pizza, some place interesting

west side of Raleigh into downtown for the area

(during the week)

Coffee dates if you want to get something immediate, ie, that same day.

Most people can spare 30 mins for coffee after work on any day.

Dinner is pretty formal, official, date.

Lunch is what friends do.

I haven't been in Raleigh for about three years...so I wouldn't know of a place in particular.

But try and find a tapas restaurant. The food is prepared pretty fast and can be pretty interesting depending on the theme or type of tapas that they serve.

Just checked out humble pie's website....looks pretty money.

Is it in the west side of Raleigh?

What's a good weeknight restaurant? Preferably in Cary or Raleigh.

Nothing too fancy
No hole in the wall
No sushi
