Im pretty sure Cristobal has to be one of the most worthless systems ever. What its going to make for a breezy day at the beach, hell there is barely even any clouds associated with the damn think right now much less rain lol. 7/20/2008 8:58:17 AM |

Will see how Dolly does after it reemerges back into the warm water, its been looking pretty strong coming across the carribean so maybe it will hold together. 7/20/2008 5:43:09 PM |

Out over the gulf now, nice warm temps and a favorable environment this one should start winding up pretty quickly. Pretty certain this will become a hurricane, how strong of one is the main question as well as will it get far enough north to hit Texas. 7/21/2008 3:16:51 PM |

I have to admit that I have not been watching this storm very closely, but has anyone seen what stage of eye-wall contraction it's in or at least will be in by the time it projected to make landfall? 7/22/2008 9:16:10 PM |

Dolly is barely a hurricane, and is still struggling to build a complete eyewall. Visible satellite loops show an eye developing, and heavy thunderstorm activity continues to increase near the core of the storm. Dolly has good upper-level outflow to the west and north, but restricted on the south side, where an upper level low pressure system is still interfering. Maximum surface winds measured by the SFMR instrument on the current Hurricane Hunter aircraft inside Dolly were 74 mph (65 kt), measured at 4:17 pm EDT. Brownsville, Texas long-range radar shows the eyewall is complete on Dolly's west side, but is struggling to get established on the east side. 7/22/2008 9:29:08 PM |

No problem, I may not have majored in meteorology, but I should have/wish I had. So instead I spend countless hours watching these things for no real good reason other than enjoyment. 7/22/2008 10:00:11 PM |

Looks a lot healthier this morning, its gonna run outta water though, if this had another 12-24 hours over the open water it would probably become a cat 3 easily. 7/23/2008 7:16:06 AM |

^if you would have majored in meteorology, you would have looked at these things more in your spare time than in actual classes....
most of your classes would be looking at every greek letter known to man in some of the longest equations you've ever seen, and then solving them.
i wish we would have spent more time looking at actual storms and things, but we did most of that in senior level courses. 7/23/2008 7:59:50 AM |

Yep...meteorology is just engineering in the atmosphere.
All the equations are similar, just different values used for the variables. 7/23/2008 9:13:31 AM |

Up to 95 mph winds with about 2 hours left over water, will likely come onshore with 100mph+ so now rain is not the only problem we will see from this one. I think they should feel lucky this thing didnt have a little more time over the water. 7/23/2008 9:24:28 AM |

I can totally understand the "looking more at equations than storms part though". Knowing how the atmosphere works (or at least knowing as much as we can) gives me a much better appreciation for what I am looking at when I see the same radar/satellite image that the average yahoo sees as well. It's nice knowing what is likely happening at the surface just by looking at an upper air map. Just some clown off the street would be hard pressed to do that. /weather snob. 7/23/2008 5:48:31 PM |

Nice little storm. Still looks pretty on the satellite and radar.

My sister lived there for 2 years and the first week she lived there they had 30" of rain... I'm not exaggerating either... EVERYTHING was flooded.
I visited twice and the time I did in the summer it was the most God awful city I've ever been to... 7/24/2008 5:29:25 PM |

wethebest Suspended 1080 Posts user info edit post |
this thing, looking at it is definately a tropical storm by now. If its not official on the next update its just because they are not finding the winds but its a tight circulation and they also have to wait for 24 hours of constant convection which may be the case since it just really got its act together today. 8/14/2008 4:07:25 PM |

Will be interesting to see where the track on this unfolds, if it swings further west it will put it over the open water for an extra day at least and into the panhandle rather than the gulf coast of florida and coudl mean a big difference in strength at landfall 8/17/2008 1:08:25 AM |
