we should just take the concept of the bracket but vote on on the patricipants

We'll serve as a selection committee of sorts

First we have to decide on the four #1 seeds, then work from there

but the problem with that is that there will be no upsets

if we vote the four 1 seeds, we've already established them as the four best

so no one could upset them

Final Four - Zeppelin, Tom Petty, Incubus, Red Hot Chili Peppers

Especially heinous seedings - Clapton at 13, Bon Jovi at 4, U2 at 2 (Jesus Fucking Christ), Offspring at 14, Nickelback at 3... actually, almost all of the 00's bracket.

The 00's bracket is weaker than a 12 year old's dick and the 70's bracket is stacked. I'm glad I don't live wherever this radio station's area is so I wouldn't be forced to listen to it. Any music institution that shows this homosexually poor lack of rock knowledge should be burned to the ground.

For me when it came down to selecting my picks it was based purely on who I would listen to if given the choice and if it was a tie who I thought was more likely to have a lasting impact or who is more influential.

I am very much jaded that Neil Young didn't make an appearance on the bracket.

lolz. nah. musically theyre one of the better creative bands of the decade but theyve got awhile to go to surpass someone like led zepplin or queen or pink floyd or smashing pumpkins etc even for me, regardless of who i listen to / enjoy more. I can still look at stuff from a neutral point of view

^ i agree.

there hopefully my edits cleared that up

I think we could make a rap bracket

I think there's enough history there to make it work

but like rock, it would be stacked with the earlier years

Maybe have the 4 brackets....80's, early 90's late 90's, 00's

and have groups and individuals exclsuive from each other...so d12 and Eminem could be two seperate entries, etc.

My fault. I always try to compare past things to contemporary ones and I got some of the bands I think of mixed up because I was in a hurry to get to class.

I meant to say that RHCP are the Led Zeppelin of our time. I don't care if you agree with that or not and I realize that they probably aren't as big as Led Zeppelin was in their prime, but I feel the quality of music they put out today is comparable to what LZ put out in the 60s/70s. I would say Incubus is an edgier contemporary version of Pink Floyd without Roger Waters' psychotic influence.

The Offspring is like The Who.

I realize that some of these bands don't match up completely in terms of style, but I like to make comparisons of my generation's music with past ones. It makes it seem less shitty overall.

^^ A lot of people listen to them. Besides, when does being popular necessarily equate to being a good rock band? Some of the best bands ever were largely unappreciated in their own time.

^ Like, I said, the 70s bracket is just fucking stacked.

Your name should be IMStoned247 because you have made comparisons that clearly must be under the influence of very very powerful hallucinogens. Pink Floyd to Incubus? You fucking kidding me? In the throes of his complete insanity Syd Barret mumbling to himself could come up with better material.

Offspring compared to The Who? One band wrote The Seeker, the other made Pretty fly for a white guy.

You try to make us not hate you by saying you aren't comparing them stylistically, but they can't be compared in any reasonable fashion.

Report to hell where those guilty of such blasphemy reside.

this thread is one big lawlz

final four: Floyd over Clapton, Tool over Alice, Metallica over U2 (closer than the experts think), Incubus over SOAD

BTBAM and Deftones lost their conference tournaments and didn't get at-larges, so they tore up the NIT, BTBAM in a squeaker

Dillinger Escape Plan or QOTSA would've been good for '00s

So is that your bracket or how you think the station would do it? Cuz if you picked Nickelback in the finals you automatically lose any credibility about anything forever.

Damn, Nickelback and Evanescence against eachother... that's too bad, neither of those bands deserve to make it past the first round.

Going by any criteria besides mainstream popularity, most of these bands don't even need to be on the list.

he stated more than once in his thread including in he exact post you are responding too that he made one guessing what the average mainstream radio station listener would pick, not what he would pick.

final 4 of zeppelin (barely over floyd), tool, beasties, & white stripes for me...though i think the 70s region is the real bracket

wow, looking at the 00's region closer, those choices are even worse than I thought.

Going by my preferences:
Final Four of Queen, Rush, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Foo Fighters.
Rush vs RHCP for championship, can't pick a winner.

Going by mainstream voting:
Final Four of Led Zepplin, Guns'n'Roses, Nirvana, and Linkin Park.
GnR vs LZ for championship, LZ would probably win.

The brackets def need some tweeking but nobody here will ever agree on a list of bands so here are my final four picks and the winner:

Led Zepplin/Nirvana, U2/(Jeebus I really don't want to pick, only because it is indicutive of the modern movement in music)Coldplay

Led Zepplin/U2

Led Zepplin

A lot of the bands in the 80s bracket could be bumped up to the 90s bracket, 80s reorganized perhaps move a few of the 70s guys up to 80s, depends on if we are talking about decades when the music was at its peak of popularity or the founding date and I'd nuke that 00s bracket. It sucks that a lot of the guys in the 70s bracket will lose out early and the likes of Linkin Park will probably go deep.

i'm going to stay away from the craptacularnes of the bracket, that has been established.

Going on my current feeling toward the bands I'd have:

Floyd over LZ in 70's(if this was a real ncaa bracket situation the announcers would be complaining how both these deserve to be in the final four but only one can make it.)

Metallica over Ac/Dc in the 80's, but I'm thinking of the 80's Metallica for this.

PJ over The Offspring(tourney shocker, 14 seed going far). Just not a RHCP fan, and I hate that Creed is even included in that region.

Incubus over Disturbed in the 00s, Linkin Park's most recent CD has never made me go from liking a band to completly hating a band so much. I can't even listen to their older shit that I really enjoyed because of this last cd. They would have made the second round though because 3 doors down sucks just as much.

PJ over Incubus, Floyd over Metallica, with Floyd winning.

just addressing the fact that someone scoffed over my choice of Queen over both Led Zepplin and Pink Floyd:

First lemme preface by saying I *love* both Pink Floyd and Led Zepplin. I am not trying to knock them in any way. I just found it interesting that someone would be so surprised I picked them considering:

Quote :
"As of 2005, according to The Guinness Book of World Records, Queen albums have spent a total of 1,322 weeks or twenty-seven years on the United Kingdom album charts; more time than any other musical act including The Beatles and Elvis Presley. Also in 2005, with the release of their live album with Paul Rodgers, Queen moved into third place on the list of acts with the most aggregate time spent on the British record charts.

In 2006, the Greatest Hits album was found to be the United Kingdom's all-time best selling album, with sales upwards of 5,407,587 copies, over 604,295 more copies than its nearest competitor, The Beatles' Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. Their Greatest Hits II album came in seventh with sales upwards of 3,631,321 copies.

One of rock's most successful, influential and popular acts, the band have released a total of eighteen number one albums, eighteen number one singles, and ten number one DVDs worldwide making them one of the world's best-selling music artists. They have sold over 300 million albums worldwide including 32.5 million albums in the United States alone as of 2004. The band are also the only group in which every member has composed more than one chart-topping single."

via wikipedia of course
