Weird. Remember Duke's AD is at LSU now too, probably will make the hire. I can see why he would leave Stanford as far as recruiting, but this one is a surprise. Who the hell is gonna coach Stanford now?

there is no way you should have 3 Big Ten teams in the top 25 without Purdue.

Purdue finished second in the Big10 and split games with OSU and MSU last year and should have been 2-0 against ohio state, they blew it in the 2nd game. They also beat Wisconsin Home and Away last year, giving WIS their only 2 losses in the conference.

On top of that, they have an extremely young team. 3 of their top 5 players were freshman...with the other 2 being sophomores. You have to go 8 deep in their roster before you saw a junior getting significant playing time.

people make too much out of what a school has done in the past. what does that have to do with now? NOTHING. i guess its because this is an ncstate message board and thats all we have to hold on to but you don't tali up all time wins championships and such and look at "tradition" (ya i'm questioning the credibility of the term) to decide which would be the best school to coach at. Silliness. Especially if a coach wants to make his own name for himself.

So who are the underclassmen that have declared so far or will declare.

Hickson
Greene from Syracuse
Love/Collison - reportedly, nothing official
Beasley - no way he stays
Budinger and Bayless
Eric Gordon
Some dude from Miss State?

Who else? Hickson will be lucky to go in the top 20.

^x4 Yeah I definitely like Purdue and forgot to put them in there. I've been high on the Baby Boilers for quite some time now, especially after watching a fair amount of their games, b/c a coworker of mine is a Purdue alum. I'd put them where Ohio State is at 16 and move Ohio State down in the 20s.

Tyler Smith may... he said if he is rated as a definite 1st rounder than he is going... his dad is dead and his family is poor as shit. From a playing standpoint I think he needs another year, but I cant really blame him. But it looks like he is staying for now..

Why was Maryland so high on that "historical rankings" poll?

I know I'm from there and support them way more than I should, especially since the Terp-TDub niche is all terpball, but really, they only have two Final Fours and one National Title to their credit.

"1. North Carolina (I think Hansbrough still returns. The key is Lawson. He could leave b/c him getting hurt may have scared him, but he may stay b/c he did get injured and that may have hurt his draft stock.)
2. UCLA (I think Love returns and they still have plenty returning.)
3. Kansas
4. Memphis (they'll have an inflated record b/c of them playing in C-USA.)
5. Stanford
6. Texas
7. Duke
8. Louisville
9. Tennessee (they should have enough returning to still be pretty good.)
10. Michigan State
11. Florida (they should be much improved.)
12. Pitt
13. Wisconsin
14. Xavier/Butler/the mid-major of the year
15. Georgetown
16. Ohio State (like Florida they should be much improved.)
17. Texas A&M
18. Villanova
19. Third place ACC team (whether that's Clemson, VT, UMD, or hopefully us )
20. Gonzaga
21. Kentucky (they should be able to continue their improvement under Gillispie)
22. Third place Pac 10 team (Oregon/Arizona most likely)
23. UConn
24. West Virginia or Marquette
25. Davidson (the loss of Richards will hurt, but they should still be good)

"

duke loses more than it gains, still has no big man, still has greg paulus as its pg, and the 3point line is a foot back.

they will not make the sweet 16 for a 3rd straight year.

^^^ if you notice 14-23 are all teams with 1 national championship. Like simonn said, they have had a lot of good teams throughout the years. After North Carolina, Duke, and State what are the most historical programs after that? Wake, Maryland, and Georgia Tech. ACCT Championships: Wake 4, UMD 3, GT 3. Final Fours: Wake 1, UMD 2, GT 2. National Championships: Wake 0, UMD 1, GT 0. It's pretty easy to see that Maryland is the fourth most historical program in the ACC. I'd say that warrants being in the Top 25.

http://www.auburn.edu/administration/facilities/arena/arena_main.htm

Auburn's new arena, which will be opened in time for the 2010-2011 season. Why build an arena that's seats less than your current one? I've got to admit that I'm not to impressed by it.

So what's the predicted starting lineup next year?

Degand/Javi/Mays
Fergie/Williams/Johnson
Fells/Thomas
Smith/Costner/Horner
McCauley

At least we'll have more than one senior on our team with Fells and McCauley...

^^^^ yeah but that's a different situation. USC played in the Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena, an off-campus arena. USC built the Galen Center so that they could have an on-campus arena and keep more of the money.

Auburn's Beard-Eaves Memorial Coliseum is on-campus and owned by Auburn, meaning they get all of the profit. I just think that they could use half of that $92.5 million to renovate, add on, and improve the building they have now.

I found this funny.

Quote :
"Men's head basketball coach Jeff Lebo said that the new arena "puts an end to the perception that basketball is not important at Auburn. It will put pride back into Auburn basketball and be a showcase arena." "

Nope everyone still thinks that basketball is not important at Auburn. Otherwise you wouldn't have decided to build a smaller arena.

Fells. I mean he was our man to shoot at the end of games too. Remember the botched play against GT where Javi was to pass it back out to Fells for a 3, but they ended up double teaming Fells and leaving Javi open for that airballed 3 pointer.

Gavin at the Portsmouth Invitational:

Quote :
"
Gavin Grant, while not blowing anyone away, has shown flashes of ability that at the very least should making him a potential invite for the Orlando pre-draft camp. Grant scored 15 points on 3-7 shooting from the field and 9-10 shooting from the free throw line, while showing off some of his intriguing athleticism and versatility. His advanced scoring instincts for his size, along with his aggressiveness on offense got him into the lane where he was able to draw contact and fouls against defenders. The mid-range game was where Grant showed some nice promise though, hitting a couple of very smooth pull up jumpers from 15 feet out. His handles were a little sloppy, and will certainly be an area he needs to focus on in the upcoming weeks. Defensively he did not really stand out. "

Gavin has had "intriguing athleticism" for 4 fucking years. It's nice that he developed the shot, too. He never developed leadership or killer instincts, though, that would have caused him to use his strengths to put pressure on the other team.
