what kind of rep? that maybe we have political minded students that are willing to stand up and ask the VALID questions that others are scared to?
Quote : | "The question, "How did it effect you?" doesn't need to be asked. I mean, seriously. Everyone with half a brain should know that it must have sucked. Case closed. Move on." |
maybe i've missed something, but that wasn't the question i've seen. the first question at butler was in reference to her mother's credibility after she claimed the scandal to be a huge right wing scheme. the question at ncsu simply asked why did she respond the way she did at butler, and why weren't her parent's actions at the time relevant to the public. how is this being skewed into people asking how it personally affected her?
furthermore, the butler student is/was a clinton supporter. he simply wanted an answer because it's something that was being challenged to him by other people. why wouldn't she want her supporters to be able to say "no, her credibility is fine... nothing like that will happen with her as president and here's why". you can say she took the high road or whatever by saying it was none of his business, but all that tells me is that her own daughter doubts her ability to keep scandal out of the white house.
after reading his response in the technician, the ncsu student has a pretty valid defense as well. he believes (like a lot of people) that our president should be a model citizen. he claims that he was just looking for an answer to the original question, or at least something more well formed than "nunya biznas". as for his reason for walking out, with easy access to information these days i would think it'd be easy enough to confirm his class schedule. unless things have changed since i graduated, a 12:25 is a real thing. if she wasn't going to give a response, why hang around any longer? maybe he'd already been waiting longer than anticipated to ask the question. or, maybe he's lying and he did do it just to be an ass, and had no class to get to. i'm just saying, look at both sides. both of these students have offered reasonable public defenses to their actions.
Quote : | "and I'm unsure of what you're trying to get at, BBR. You're talking about how Yankees, being tactless, would bring this kind of shit up and then saying that the question needs to be asked." |
my main point was to show how the whole redneck/yankee thing is silly, and just as ignorant to bring up as this question supposedly is. people are people, and you've got all kinds in every part of the country. however, my point was that IF this is so crass/rude and we're going to perpetuate stereotypes and attack/label people in this situation, the description fits what a yankee would do more than a redneck. not that i really care either way, neither one of them are desirable people in the stereotypical sense.
Quote : | "lol i'm willing to bet your definition of typical southern and my definition of typical southern are very different" |
it's not my definition. it's what always gets brought up in any of these sorts of threads.
to end, i will say again that if the motivations here were just to get a reaction, embarrass, or hurt her then it was out of line. i also agree that her personal reaction and feelings about what happened within the family are no one else's concern. i just don't see any evidence supporting that any of that was the case though. despite the bad memories it might expose, expecting her to have a response on the accountability of her mother as first lady and president is more than fair.
