oh my GOD

i HATE people who do this

i don't give a fuck WHY you're doing it

it's the FIRE LANE. it is there for a reason.

would you rather us try and find a place to park/waste minutes of time OR come save your life?

DO NOT DO THIS

if i see someone do this i go and call them out on it every time

Do it.

People around downtown Raleigh use handicap placards to park at the meters all day. People with actual business in these areas can't find a space because of all the "handicapped" people that stay in the space all day.

I'm one of those people that squeezes my car into a spot beside the guy that took two spots, I mean my car is crappy enough anyway why would I care if another dent is put in it from their door, and if I put a dent in their door cause of this then well who cares, it was their fault they didn't park correctly."

I doubt that this is true, will someone who knows a cop or something please find out.

i have a dent in my front bumper that i would love for someone else to pay for

Any time you hit a parked car it's your fault.
But it's cool with me if you tell people it is legal to hit cars parked in the fire lane.

Please clear something up for me - -

How does "just running in for a minute" have anything to do with "couldn't find a close spot" and "Had to park close".......

..... I mean, you're going to walk into the store to get what you need - not just grab the items in the first 20 feet of entering the store. It doesn't seem to be an issue of 'I didn't get milk because it was in the back of the store'

It's pure laziness, and makes me giggle every time I hear someone say this.

you mean its wrong of me to park in the unloading zone outside of tally with flashers when I'm running up to the ATM with no line? Finding a spot near there takes all damn day. and walking from coliseum deck is a pain when you just need 20$. oh well. I've still never parked in a fire lane. definitely shouldn't be doing that unless you are sitting in the drivers seat waiting for someone you'll know will be out within a minute or so

On a related note, I hate it when you are stuck in traffic and some fuckers get the bright idea of using the emergency lane. Last Thursday when I got off work there was a really big accident on one of the interstates nearby, traffic was backed up for miles, etc. A bunch of people started jumping into the emergency lane until I could see it start to back up. Then the tow truck that was supposed to help clear the wreckage came by and was stuck in the emergency lane because it couldn't get to the wreck. I mean seriously, wtf would those people have done if that was an ambulance or a firetruck? They seriously could have caused someone to die.

that can (and does) happen all the time

we find ways around though

and then usually get PD to issue tickets to those jackasses

No, see. If you're in the car waiting on someone you aren't parked in the fire lane, you are stopped in the fire lane. If you see a fire truck coming, you can move quickly away. Just like if you see a cop coming, you can move away and not get a ticket. Stopped and parked both mean that you aren't moving, but you can easily move a stopped car.

i went into whole foods today, got my sample on, bought some food and came back out 15 minutes later to find the same car sitting in the fire lane that was there when i went in.

15 minutes is ridiculous.

but the problem with just stopping and waiting on someone is that it causes traffic problems. other people do it, now the whole place is full of cars

get a spot and drive up when the guy comes out

This nation is becoming so damn lazy. Seriously, park your damn car in a spot or you fail at life. Even if it's fricking 11pm and you're going on a beer run. You can get a spot right up front, it's just an extra 5-10 feet.

obviously youve never done this before the car doesnt catch on fire, it just scares the shit outa them. when they start drivin, the muffler gets hot and lights the fuse. if you want them to think somthings wrong with their car, use firecrackers, especially if you do this multiple times.

I'm at work right now.

The entire fire lane is blocked with people parked there.

I'm getting the ball rolling on either giving these folks tickets (campus tickets, not city of raleigh) or towed.

yup

same with people who park on the street & it becomes too narrow for a truck to get through

*Skeptical

Got any proof of this? If so, balling. This doesn't count if the truck has a wide load though right? Cause usually a wide load is about a lane width 10 feet or more.

Also most streets with on street parking discourage them from being truck routes.

how can YOU park illegally, get a ticket and complain, then when other people park illegally, you complain about them breaking the law?

also not a big deal if you are sitting in the car waiting on someone, it's not like you couldnt move if there were an emergency"

Discreetly (ie. don't be seen or could probably be charged with destruction of property) puncture their tire.

Or, just have a couple nails around and set them so they'll enter the tire upon moving the vehicle.

It's going to be about the same cost as getting someone towed, WAY faster response time than the tow truck, and you get to watch them change a tire if it's where you work.

Think of it as a duct-taped version of the "traffic controllers" found in some parking lots/banks/etc. http://www.epsinfo.com/prod03.htm
