^^^^^^AHA no drinking but gambling is a-okay!

Seriously, this is probably an unpopular sentiment...but strict Christianity and parties don't really mix.

There's an amount of somber restraint associated with some Christian reverance of God. The emphasis is on suffering in the name of the Lord for the greater prize in the afterlife. That doesn't quite lend iteslf to a great secular celebration of some mere mortal's birthday.

In other words, just have booze. It's wrong to deny fifty other people boozy refreshment just because the party giver doesn't drink.

If drinking really isn't going to be allowed, just do what other people do at their fancy parties. I mean, you're asking college kids about activities for a party of 40-50 sober, dressy people in a ballroom...when there's no magical solution...people are probably going to be bored.

^^I don't think they were pissed.

Also, you've established yourself as an authority on non-alcoholic fun. Perhaps you'd like to share some party suggestions?

(And then I'll tell you how fucking lame they are.)

christian adults can get liquored and coked up at parties just like everyone else. If you don't sin in your life, then Jesus died for nothing.

Don't plan a goddamned thing. Have it set up just like a regular party, only with Coke/Dr. Pepper instead of beer. Then let people stand around and get bored.

Then, just when the atmosphere is getting really stagnant, say really loud "Boy howdy, I wish God had provided us with some way to make parties more enjoyable!"

in this case "sin" is taken to mean "enjoy the luxuries of life which God has generously given you, which are pleasarable and harmless when taken in moderation, rather than ungratefully and indiscriminately rejecting the lot of them"

Why would you post this in Chit Chat on TWW on the Internet if you didn't want or expect sexual 'inintendo'?
Since you've decreed no one at this party is getting laid anyway, why not just bust out the Dance Dance Revolution and Dungeons and Dragons? Or are you one of those Christians against those, too?

I mean hell, a party in an auditorium with just beer sounds pretty damn boring too.

Seriously, the auditorium was a bad idea probably. It should have been outside where you could grill/play games.

that's completely false. legality and morality are often two very different things.

that said, it's a TWENTY FIRST BIRTHDAY PARTY, and you aren't going have ANY booze at all? Are you serious? Even if you don't get drunk, it's pretty much imperative that you drink on your 21st birthday. I'm not even a big drinker anymore, but this idea of a dry 21st birthday party is fucking retarded.

Be a good person and all, and stay true to your religious principles, but don't be a big pussy. You need to live life 90 miles per hour with your hair on fire. Partake of this life with which you've been blessed.

i love getting wasted at parties and goin crazy, but i'm amazed that all these people can't have fun just hanging out with people that are fun to be around.. i enjoy a good mix of both (gotta have some drunk time tho.. but i'd respect the way my friend wants their party)

have lots of good food/music
ROOT BEER KEG (it is a 21st.. ppl would get a kick out of it even if they're stiffs)
Apples to Apples
Mafia (card game)
Bingo?
Jenga
Catchphrase is a must

it really depends on what kind of stuff you're looking for / what kind of stuff your friends are into It's always okay to make the person turning 21 do some random shit because they have to listen to you

i'm a christian and i drink a couple times a week. but if people's beliefs are that they shouldnt drink I dont see why everyone's gotta hate on them.. whether they are christian or buddist or islamic or whatever they are...

geez TWW you guys get all over people for persecuting some things but other things you're rediculous about

Using christianity as the only reason for not drinkng is silly. i don't really drink anymore, but in the list of reasons, being a christian is at the very very bottom.

The implication that being christian means being sober is rather sad.

^^^^It's a larger party though of mixed ages. With people who are supposedly going to be dressed nicely. In an auditorium.

And they're trying to think of cheap forms of entertainment like games...

It just doesn't work. Booze or no booze.

but in reality what games can you play with 40-50 ppl dressed nicely with no booze?

most party type games (non alcoholic) are for 15-20 people max. So you'd have to split up or something.. it's not like a massive capture the flag game is gonna go down.

i'd suggest karoke

this is one of the few sentiments in this thread I actually agree with...

the other thing i agree with...

Quote :
"Catchphrase is a must"

i don't know which annoys me more...the self righteous assholes who think their sobriety makes them better than me or the drinkers who think all people that don't drink are lame and no fun...

some of the wildest, craziest, most fun people i've known in my life don't drink...and never have....but they are down for everything and always up for a good time....AND you always have a DD....

so don't piss these people off

that being said...my parents are both tee-totalers...imagine their chagrin when they got the call that their only little girl was arrested for none other than drinking and driving...

but they didn't condemn me...they didn't tell me i was going to hell...they told me they were disappointed in me for making a really awful decision....to learn my lesson...be more responsible...don't do it again...and PAY FOR IT MYSELF....and i respect the shit out of them for that....enough to not drink in their home (but then again i don't drink in my own home) or even when i go visit them...and i manage to always have a wonderful and relaxing time every time i visit my parents....

you don't have to be "ON" all the time to have fun....sometimes that's way more exhausting than it's worth...
