Funny story...first time I met the guys of Opeth was right after I'd seen GWAR. I'd chosen to wear white that day and I was pink from head to toe with fake blood. So imagine me, in all pink, with my 'fro, searching through the tour van parking lot and getting called out by Martin Mendez. Spoke with Akerfeldt for a spell, funny guy. Martin Lopez was way too stoned to talk and Peter was engaged with one of their techs.

Kai Hahto, Hannes grossman and Shannon Lucas are probably the best blaster's right now. But Martin Axernot from bloodbath/opeth is not far behind.
Kai can keep some pretty ridiculous polyrhythms going on whilst blasting that i'm pretty sure i don't have enough arms to do. The guy in btbam is pretty good also

Mike Smith is not the fastest or best drummer in metal, but he's definitely one of my favorites. Fucking solid and POWERFUL, perfect for Suffocation. Who's also probably my sentimental favorite DM band of all time.

Dave Suzuki, the man behind Vital Remains, is also a fucking god. Not because he's the best guitarist or drummer, but because he's ridiculously skilled...at both. Take the song "Dechristianize" for example. The INSANE triplet blasting that he maintains without a rest fill and without wavering through much of the song is rigoddamndiculous.

^^ I saw Axenrot (I'm pretty sure it was Axe anyway) play with Hate Eternal right after Derek Roddy left. One of the best shows I've ever seen. Wasn't theatric, just heavy, fast, dark, and BRUTAL. I about shat myself when they did King of all Kings \m/
