http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20080429-microsoft-releases-the-long-anticipated-windows-xp-sp3.html
Quote : | " It's time to set the record straight: Windows XP SP3 is available for download from Microsoft, but it has not officially hit the Release to Web (RTW) milestone as was originally planned for today.
The delay only recently became evident when Microsoft spokesperson posted the following message on Microsoft TechNet: "In the last few days, we have uncovered a compatibility issue between Microsoft Dynamics Retail Management System (RMS) and both Windows XP SP3 and Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1). In order to make sure customers have the best possible experience, we have decided to delay releasing Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3) to the web."
Having said that, if you are not running Microsoft Dynamics RMS, it is perfectly safe to install XP SP3 or Vista SP1 (which has also been pulled from automatic updates). " |

as if there aren't enough links to places to get this already in this thread... 5/5/2008 11:32:41 PM |

if you want to download the standalone SP3, there's links here.
if you want the slipstreamed image directly from MS (for volume lic./msdn & retail) do a search in google with the hash and you'll find the torrents.

if anybody has been getting any "Access Denied" errors partway through installation, this did the trick for me
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/949377
I disabled Symantec Antivirus (I actually uninstalled it since it was giving me some issues anyway...then re-installed after SP3 was updated) and then did step 3 which changes registry permissions
my script took about 15 minutes to run but it was well worth it! 6/9/2008 4:47:01 PM |

so anybody installed this from windows update yet? i installed the Network Installation Package version at home a while ago and wanted to install it at work now. then i saw this:
Quote : | "DO NOT CLICK DOWNLOAD IF YOU ARE UPDATING JUST ONE COMPUTER: A smaller, more appropriate download is now available on Windows Update. The best way to ensure you get Windows XP Service Pack 3 is by turning on the Automatic Updates feature in Windows XP. You can use our step-by-step instructions or, if you prefer, let us do it for you. " |
i looked in windows update and the download center, but i can't find anything except the network package6/12/2008 9:32:53 AM |

the remote desktop logon screen is a little different. other than that, i haven't noticed anything either. but i use rdp so much at home and at work, it has become just irritating enough to see one thing at home and another at work that i felt the need to install sp3 at work too 6/12/2008 9:56:50 AM |
