While I understand the 3-series is a great car, you people keep bringing them up when the OP said within the first 4 posts that, for two different reasons, he doesn't want a BMW.

RyanNCSU1, have you made any headway on your decision? I am actually in the same boat. I recently went over 210,000 on my Jeep. It has been a good car, but its about time to give it up and I am thinking about getting away from the SUVs. I want something nice, but I'm a little weary about the 'expensive' look. However I did just test drive a 330 and I like it a lot. It did not have the best room though, I thought that the TL had the best room of the cars that I have driven lately.

I'm somewhat in the same boat too. I'm looking more at high performance 4-bangers with a more luxurious feel though. I don't want to deal with a manual though. Anybody have any suggestions? All the better 4-bangers I would have considered (MazdaSpeed 3, Civic si) are MT only.

Are you sure the Civic si is MT-only?

Also, what about a VW GTI?

I was looking on the Honda website and I didn't see any offerings of the si with an automatic transmission. It could simply be manual only for the latest iteration of the si though, and maybe the 2007/2008 version has it.

I'll look up the GTI...I'm not too sold on the shape, but I know it has some pop.

Still have a 05 GTP available! And when you guys pick a car that you really want, get with me before you buy anything. I will be happy to locate the car you want in the wholesale network and save you money.

jetta is the same chassis, if you're looking for a sedan. the '04+ GLI is a pretty nice car... legroom in the rear leaves something to be desired (for adults), but is functional...

^^^Don't waste your time looking. No Si or other high performance VTEC model has ever been sold with an automatic. Its nice to see Honda being hardcore about their performance models, but its also kinda funny b/c Honda's performance models have really fallen behind the times recently

Have you considered a used Audi A3? Sure its a "wagon" but its a pretty sweet ride.

It looks like I'm zeroing in on the GTI or an Audi. I won't shy away from a wagon, as long as it's still a 4-banger.

I'm also gonna consider the Acura TSX and the RSX that came before it. I obviously like the RSX's style much better than the TSX, but I need to do more research before I can definitely choose one over the other.

If any of ya guys have experience with any of these cars, feel free to lemme know if it was a good one or not.

Throw the Audi TT into the mix too.

^^The Audi A3 comes with either a 200hp 2.0 liter 4 cylinder turbocharged engine or a N/A 3.2 liter 250hp V6. The 2.0T model is cheaper, lighter, better handling and almost as fast so its the way to go.

^The TSX is not the successor to the RSX, they are two completely different cars. I'm confused though, are you looking for a 2 dr or 4 dr?

RSX is a coupe that replaced the Integra, the TSX is the equivalent of the Accord that replaced the CL... if I am not mistaken.

But the RSX was not the predecessor of the TSX if thats what you meant. My sister in law has a TL and loves it.

My bad, the TSX came out and the RSX disappeared soon after.

I could care less about having a 2 door or a 4 door. I think coupes look better, but I probably need to look ahead to the future and consider the 4 door over the coupe.

no real luck. the g8 i want hasnt gotten in at the dealership yet, prob going to be at least a few weeks. checked out chargers today, they loaned me an 06 RT with 30K miles. the car has potential but it just doesnt compare favorably with the g8 performance wise.

I think the TT suggestions are in response to SuperDude's question about halfway up this page, not the original post.

That or people just don't read, which was made abundantly clear when 55 people kept suggesting the 3-series to the original poster.

Has anyone on here had any experience with Chargers? Been driving this one around the last little bit as i mentioned above, nice car, feels heavy as hell, steering is way to light. Good power but the thing weighs 4100 lbs! Seems like it would be great for most folks but if your truely performance oriented its not suitable.

^Car and Driver ran a comparison test last month of the G8 GT against the Charger R/T. Basically the G8 bitch slapped the Charger all over the place.

I'm not sure if this is the exact article, but if not something similar: http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/hot_lists/high_performance/features_classic_cars/2008_pontiac_g8_gt_meets_the_competition_feature/(page)/1

Anybody that rules out a best in class car because they're afraid of image utterly fails at life.

Why the hell would you buy a subpar, not sporty at fucking all FWD sedan because a BMW has 'associated image.'

What, when you roll up in a sparkling infiniti, people are going to think

'poor ryan, has to eat dinner at the soup kitchen.'

If you're concerned about image so badly, by a god damn Camry.

If you actually want a sporty 4 door sedan, get a bmw.

Just picked her up yesterday. Decided on gray since it would be easier to keep clean. Thus far 200 miles on it and love it to death. Very fun and comfortable car to drive.

^supposed to just take it relatively easy the first 500 miles (basically dont beat the snot out of it) and thats it.

seems the tranny is the biggest thing to break in. right now it doesnt shift very smooth if you get on it (lots of lag) but from what im told that will improve as you get the first couple thousand miles on it.

doesn't really make any difference with modern vehicles, just drive it. there's even a school of thought that driving aggressively actually helps break parts in and seat them better than driving like grandma.

Quote :

are you sure it's that you're just not used to the feel? autos have changed a lot in the past few years, namely in how sophisticated the computer controls have become. you could be mistaking the normal cut in power, adjustment of line pressure, etc. between shifts for a problem. which isn't surprising if you don't have much seat time in newer stuff, it definitely jumps out at you if you're used to a more conventional auto.

anyway, it's definitely a sweet car man. i think you made the right choice. keep us updated on how you like it.

^^been getting around 24 or so on the highway, 17 - 18 around town it seems. has a trip computer that keeps track of it.

^ive heard the same thing about break in, basically just drive it like you plan to drive it and all is good. im not exactly driving it like an old lady breaking it in either.

as far as the tranny, the amount of lag is more than what could be considered normal. its nice and smooth when your just cruising along just gets a bit nasty when you get on it. like i mentioned, from what i have read on the forums that tends to dicipate the more mileage you put on it. obviously i could just say the hell with it and put it in the auto stick mode but well wait until the engine is good and broken in for that.
