I think this is missing the point. We are saying that women, based on their gender, are genetically pre-disposed to keep the best possible world for themselves and their offspring for as long as possible. While men, based on their gender, are genetically pre-disposed to possess the best possible world(s) for themselves and their offspring (although not always required), and the duration does not play a significant role in decision making.

Women love deeply and rarely, men love little and often. This can also be associated with what women and men will do to get said love/companionship. Women want love to endure for as long as possible in a fairy tale sense, while men want it to occur as much as possible, and with as many as possible in a primal propagation sense.

It's the whole nest versus seed theory, where women want to create the perfect nest for their offspring while men want to spread their seed to as many nests as possible. So women lie to create that perfect enviroment for themselves and their offspring for eventual harmony and security, and men lie to spread their love to as many women as they can to achieve love-making and dominance.

Stimwalt, you make some good points, but I am really not seeing this as an evolutionary biology thing and there are plenty of examples of lies that would not fit that description.

A woman knows that bullshitting a man does not help to create stable long term relationships (or nests), and I can be reasonably sure that some of the lies we are talking about here have to do with women cheating and sneaking around, which is obviously not "taking care of the offspring" mode.

Right, not all lies from a woman to a man or vice versa are even remotely related to what I'm talking about. What I'm saying is that in the cases where they are related, it may have a correlation to nest vs seed theory and others. Many people talk about how all women are crazy, and they get away with statements like that unabridged. I'm trying to use a different approach, something that could be measured.

Back in the day, I used to lie, then tell the truth, then lie again about the same thing.

Also telling the truth, following that with a lie, and then coming clean with the true.

It made it so people can't really tell what the truth is, except for the truth that I'm a conflicted liar. And I'm okay with that.

Now, I'm extremely honest. I mostly just don't talk enough to lie. I have a friend who talks so much a lie pops out like three an hour.

There is a lot of TRUTH in this thread. most notably i think we can all agree that women do lie a lot. Personally I believe a lot of it has to do with the lack of accountability women have. They typically haven't had to endure as much accountability for their actions in their lives (people getting them out of stuff, holding their hand through things, etc...) and since they don't know how to(notice didn't say not capable of) handle it and prefer avoiding both the conflict and consequences associated with it they resort to the lie. often times this will even lead to them deluding themselves that the lie they started, told, and then lived was true to begin with.
