I was 22 and my fiancee was turning 21 in 2 months. We had been together almost 7 years though and we will be 24 and 22 when we get married. But overall I do agree with this statement.

I was 26, she was 24.

----

people who stay single so they can party well into their 30s end up looking used up.

I have a few neighbors who are single women in their mid to late 20's, who go out every night and look like they're in their 30s. They clearly used to be pretty hot, but now they're partied out whores.

i take better care of myself now than i did when i was 25....

but i didn't stay single until 30 so i could party.....

i became single at 24 so i wouldn't ruin my life by marrying a man that would have made me miserable

Dunno, I knew one guy that wanted to get married a long time ago, but couldn't find a willing female until he was in his 40s. Woman he found was about to be deported because her visa was up.

I guess I'm stupid then.

the only reason this is stupid is if the only reason you want to get married is:
Quote :
"only christians do this

because they can't bwn in sin

Now that's when its stupid.

no..that's not the only time it's stupid...

and you're going to take this as a personal attack on you and i don't really mean it that way....you just make for a good example to use

you're 20 years old...what the hell have you experienced in life?

you'll be a completely different person in 5 years than you are right now....your life will be different....your perspective on life will be different....

why would you (and anybody else) want to limit your life experiences just to be married....you have your entire life to be married and have a family but you're only young and free once....

i just don't get it

i commend you (and anybody else) if you can make it work...and i'm not saying it never does...but the odds aren't very good....

you have no concept of what you're missing out on in life....

That's just as retarded as the meredith girl mentality of needing to get engaged before graduation.

It's not about age, it's about where you are in life.

^^^ I'm not offended or insulted, you repeated what I had read already in this thread, except directed at me.
I'm not missing out on anything that I know of. I'm not limiting life experiences. I'm not starting a family either. btw I'm not getting married until after graduation anyways.

Tell me some things that are so important to experience first, you know while I'm still young and "free"
because I'm in no hurry. I've got time for these experiences.

I dont think you should be engaged before 32 at least, married before 40, or have a kid before 55.

a co-worker of mine had twin dragons tattooed on her back. One was for, like her struggles or some shit. The other one she got to symbolize her love for her "second ex-fiance." Anyone who has two ex-fiance, especially a "second ex-fiance" tatt, gets a big LOL from me.

come on girl, enough with the bullshit. you just like dragons.

haha....ok good...because i really didn't mean it as an attack on you per se...you just happened to be the best example in the thread...

as far as the things you experience....that's all relative to the individual...

but there is a lot to be said for have a job and disposable income and the freedom to come and go as you please without having to worry about someone else....and i don't mean that in selfish way...i'm not saying don't have a bf or whatever....but i never realized how much there really is out there to enjoy and do until it was left up to me, and only me, to find and do these things...

like i said before...i commend you if you can make it work and i'm definitely not condemning your relationship...also congratulations for having the good sense to wait until after graduation....but there is a whole other world out there after graduation as a single person...

it's just terribly hard to explain....and it's really a perspective thing....your ideas change...your ideals change...different things become important to you....it's just a matter of growing up and learning who you truly are before adding another person into your life...

Seems this happens a lot with people who don't go to college and stay in the town they grew up in and have no motivation to go out and see whats out in the world. They are content just living in the same boring town and marrying someone they met in HS. People like this really piss me the fuck off. I am seeing it a lot when I go back home to Burlington. Why people don't want to move off for awhile and meet new and different people, and see what else there is besides their hometown and the people in it just amazes me.

^^ there is no need to criticize other people's choices. So what if they don't want to move, and choose to stay in the same town with the same people? Not everyone has the desire to explore the world. I like traveling sometimes, but I recognize that some people don't like to leave the comforts of their own small town. It's perfectly fine.

^^^^thanks, livingproof. I understand what you are saying.

^There is nothing wrong with doing that if you have gone out and seen what else and who else is out there. If you don't like what the other options are, then fine, by all means stay in your hometown. But to just be content with something without experiencing anything else is just small minded stupidity if you ask me.

I agree with the statement. Although a friend of mine is getting married this summer at the ripe ole age of 21. Better her than me.
I don't even want a ring until I've graduated which we all know is going to be about another 20 years.

Every year my students have to write an essay about what they want to do after high school. Every year, most of the girls write either that they want to get married and have a million babies or become a wedding planning and then get married and have a million babies. It kind of depresses me.

And then yesterday one girl wrote that she wants to experience living on her own and having a dog and taking road trips. That made me

Getting married has not limited me in the least little bit. Why should it?
If you're married to the right person, the marriage shouldn't limit you. If nothing else, it should give you a sticking place so you can go out and do more than you would have otherwise. If you're limited by marriage, then you're married to the wrong person.

yeah. probably. but sometimes, you gotta do stupid things. some people get engaged, other people break their legs trying to jump off the roof and land on the trampoline. whatever floats your boat.

You haven't done shit by the time you're 21. You've been out of the house for 3 years, most likely still not really on your own since mom and dad likely paid for college so you can hardly even be considered an adult. Hell, if you're in college/just graduated then you have absolutely no idea of what the real world is or what it means to be an adult.

Go out and get some real world experience before you tie yourself to one person or place too quickly.

I have a hard time wrapping my head around the idea of getting married period, let alone at a young age. I have no idea how my parents managed right out of high school. The fact that they are still married nearly 30 years later is amazing and is by a large margin the exception that proves the rule.
