yeaaaah boyeeee had to find my HS in the FAQ

" 6. Why don't I see famous public high schools like Stuyvesant in New York City or Thomas Jefferson in Fairfax County, Va., on the NEWSWEEK list?

We do not include magnet or charter high schools that draw high concentrations of top students whose average SAT or ACT scores significantly exceed the highest average for any normal enrollment school in the country. This year that meant such schools had to have an average SAT score below 1300 on the reading and math sections, or an average ACT score below 29, to be included on the list.

The schools you name are terrific places with some of the highest average test scores in the country, but it would be deceptive for us to put them on this list. The Challenge Index is designed to honor schools that have done the best job in persuading average students to take college level courses and tests. It does not work with schools that have no, or almost no, average students. "

"well that explains why so many guilford county/greensboro schools are on there. The school system REQUIRES you to take the AP exam if you take an AP class, whereas it's typically optional."

Yup. Which explains why I had to pay $40 in order to take an AP test for US History that I filled out in crayon.

"NEWSWEEK's Challenge Index is designed to recognize schools that challenge average students, and not magnet or charter schools that draw only the best students in their areas. These top performers, listed below in alphabetical order, were excluded from the list of top high schools because, despite their exceptional quality, their sky-high SAT and ACT scores indicate they have few or no average students.

top public high schools

yeah, mine's not gonna be on the list...

needless to say 99% of graduating seniors go to 4 year colleges of their choice... average SAT was in the 1200's (back in the 1600 point days)

NC science and math is gonna be better of course.
