^i would think the monfils/fed match is the bigger match of the day (since monfils is french) and they may not want to be out there for 8 hours.

this TV coverage is ridiculous. the tennis channel had coverage this morning from 6-10am (which spanned the nadal/djokovic match) but they showed a replay of ivanovic/jankovic. so when nbc came on i expected them to show fed/monfils which started shortly after 10 when their coverage began. but they are showing a match that has already been completed.

i'm not sure when the fed match will be shown? nbc's coverage is supposed to end at 1, and tennis channel has coverage again at 4, so maybe then?

i'm glad ivanovic won...i think this could be the start of her cementing her spot on top of the women's game. she's got the game to play well on clay, hardcourt, and grass and she is only improving.

didn't see it going down like that. i figured fed would get a set off nadal but nadal didn't really do much wrong the entire match and fed was off his game.

i look forward to seeing fed back on top of his game on the grass at wimbledon

what Nadal has done on clay is a hell of an accomplishment. But then again, Michael Chang won at the French Open serving UNDERHAND so eh, I don't really respect the clay.

The Championships Wimbledon: a man's court surface.

even without the french open I'd say fed will still go down as the best ever considering how most people feel about sampras and he didn't even make a final, three finals vs the best clay courter in history aint bad

watching the replay of the wimbledon it's amazing how a different a game it is, federer served a dozen more aces than the french and his shots were so crisp hitting the grass and bouncing so low that he was a much better player against nadal, I'm amazed the players can adjust so quickly

it sucks there are no grass or clays around here, I'd like to see how much better/worse my game would be

there's actually quite a few of clay courts around here. just not at public parks.

idk about federer winning a french. he's getting old now and djokovic/nadal/even monfils have proven at their young age they can all stop him.

even nalbandian beat him on clay this year. i'm kind of sad for him. who knows. maybe he's got 1 more big year left, looking more and more doubtful every time he plays though.

bullshit.

agassi won 5 grand slams while he was 29-33 years old.
sampras had 6 while at 26-31 years old
lendel had 5 while 26+
etc

i'm bet any amount of money that federer get more than then at 26+

he's got plenty of good tennis left in him

yea but against the competition federer has today... he doesn't have many chances, the best players are the youngest...
i agree federer could be winning grand slams at age 30-33 BUT, he won't be beating djokovic, nadal, tsonga, murray, gulbis regularly, meaning having to go through more than 1 of those guys in his run will be extremely doubtful

didn't djokovic beat federer in straight sets at the Australian Open?

26 for men isn't the oldest player in history, but let's be honest here, federer is past his prime. 2 things will hold true in the coming years: he's not getting any better, and his competition is not getting any worse

as good as he is, his gametype is hugely based on defense and countering weaknesses [as opposed to pete sampras who was based entirely on offensive production and overpowering]

this seems to help on fast surfaces like grass and concrete more than slow surfaces like clay (don't forget, nadal took him to 5 sets just a year ago on federers favorite surface at wimbledon, in fact he's beaten him more times on grass than federers beaten him on clay)

^^apparently he had mono earlier in the year. that and i'd say his service game has improved over the years. but yeah, nadal and djokovic are nipping at his heels.

i have a feeling he'll be HONGRY at wimbledon this year though.

also on nadal: with the way he bangs around the court, he seems more likely to hurt himself seriously.

not quite. his game is based on versatility and excellent shot making ability/precision, especially under pressure. he can hit so many different shots, extremely well...and he can be on the offense in so many different situations that other tour players would have to take a defensive shot, because of his shot making ability and mobility (which obviously will decline in the coming years).

Quote :
"in fact he's [nadal] beaten him more times on grass than federers beaten him on clay)"

nadal is freaky good on clay, that doesn't really mean that much. since 2005 his clay record is something like 105-1, that's just crazy. but it's kinda of lopsided too though...nadal has only won 4 grand slams, all at the french open. it is a good rivalry, and nadal is improving on non-clay surfaces so it'll be interesting to see how it goes down in the next few years

Quote :
"he's not getting any better, and his competition is not getting any worse"

that's not accurate either. his serve has improved greatly over the last year or two. if you don't know that then you don't follow tennis. you're right about the competition though, it is going to start getting more stout. and i will agree that he looked pretty unimpressive at the french (in spite of reaching the finals, and losing to clay-god nadal).

Does anyone else think that Federer looks way skinnier than he used to? I guess this could be due to mono, which someone mentioned earlier.

i just wish that blake could pull it together and win a grand slam event.

perhaps he'll have a shot at the us open this year. he's just so inconsistent that he can't string together 7 wins in a row when it counts.

yea federer has plenty of power, he just doesn't let it define his game, which is why he's so fun to watch

^he'll never win a slam, whats funny is that not even americans give a shit about roddick anymore
