me too, thats why I was going to go that route. But if they say business casual, I'm going sans tie for sure. I'll save the suit for a more professional interview.

aaron, stop being a puss. i interviewed longer than that for my co-op :p like quinn said, that's a standard interview. for the job i have now i had to do a day-long assessment.

my tips:

dont be tacky or flashy, and my preference is if you're wearing a tie, make it have CONTRAST. its okay for it to be solid or have designs, but do not wear those ties in those pics, that fading colors look on a tie is cheap looking. solid lines or solid color, homes. also, i agree with the white shirt suggestion. i don't see a need for a jacket, i find them uncomfortable (especially in the summer) and unnecessary most of the time, but that's up to you. if you're anything like me, you will be tempted to wear it just because you blew money on it and want to make use of it. save it for a funeral.

make sure whatever you wear, you are physically comfortable, because it will show if you aren't.

show that you have some personality. sometimes when i interview i get too serious. make sure you show some energy and enthusiasm, just not over the top of course. if you are excited about the job, they will be more excited about having you on the team.

if you could somehow control yourself to not be nervous, that's a huge advantage as well.

eye contact, but don't stare anyone down.

Listen,

The interview was hardcore because of how important it is. I have had a much long much more draining interview at a place I wasn't really excited about. The fact is, I fuck this interview I fuck up a huge and exciting opportunity.

BTW I got an offer today and I am fucking pumped.

My VP says "what is fashionable and what is professional are not always one in the same."
I agree.
I say keep it simple. If you want to play 'jazzy,' play it with your tie... keep the shirt white.
Looks more classic, classy, professional, serious, etc.

P.S. - I was a day late and dollar short on what I think - but I interview and hire regularly... if that is an opinion that is of use to anyone else.

no, jeans and a T-shirt on Friday. Actually, the younger crowd (30 or under) wear casual stuff all the time, the old school crowd dress up all the time, except Friday. We only deal with customers over the phone. The older crowd has never dressed down, the younger crowd has really never dressed up (except you have a couple outfits if the big wigs come around).

when I roll in with a nice collared shirt, everyone gives me "you must be doing laundry today" comments. Luckily no one gives two shits about dress code

Whelp, tomorrow I begin work at my new job at GE in Wilmington, NC. Going to be a huge adjustment to the structured environment and how everything is done inside a true corporation. Gotta go through the new employee orientation program and get adjusted to everything.

^^ Exactly. At first you will be impressed by the name and the fact that people have heard of where you work.

After ~6 months you will realize how comparatively stupid everyone you work with is and you will want to get out asap.

Too much bullshit with big companies and the people making decisions are 8 levels above you. Welcome to being micro managed by trained monkeys.

Hopefully that should be tempered by a decent paycheck from GE. Put in some years and options to go somewhere more practical should bloom.

I just started at Lenovo last week, I'm interested to see how things work in the larger corporate setting. Already I can see how many people's hands a simple task has to go through to be authorized, completed, approved, and released that I was used to doing all by myself before.

NEVER DRESS DOWN OF FRIDAY'S EVEN IF IT IS COMMON. I always take the rule of thumb that i dress nicer than my coworker and even with the person resposible for my raise or promotion.

one thing I will say is that unless you are a small engineering contractor, please wear a suit to your interview, maybe I have just had more formal interviews but any interview I have had (as an ME) I would have felt under dressed if I did not have a suit and tie on.

Regarding shirt color, I have never worn a white shirt to an interview, but at the same time I didnt wear anything too bold. Light blue and light yellows etc. with a nice complimenting tie.

congrats on getting a job with ge. it's quite an institution, but like people said above, you'll run into a lot of red tape, and be dealing with a company that's almost too large to manage everyone.

Yea, its completely different. Procedures for everything. Which, atm seem refreshing from having no guidelines at all at my previous job. I am sure I will hate them in a bit.

I will keep you guys posted when it gets gay. But so far its just intimidating.

And I got the offer 6 days after the interview. Then drug screening and background check. I didnt post that I got the offer till I started.
