Yeah that is weird. either the demos aren't the exact same or that gamespot guy sucks at the game, but I've killed him plenty of times.

If you are playing it solo, concentrate on him and let sheva take care of the regular 'zombies'

If you are playing it co-op it is a lot easier because he'll follow one of the players and the other player will shoot the barrels that you run past with him behind. Plus headshots with the rifle are easier when he is following somebody else.

Is there a playable demo out for America now or something? Or is all this talk about the Japanese RE5 demo...I might boot it up and try to kill the chainsaw guy then.

I don't think so, I think it is just the download online->burn to cd-> demo. I don't think an official one will be coming for another month or so.

This RE4 mechanics work quite well in this game, and the game also makes me want to explore just as I expected it to do. I never why they chose Africa, but it was a good locale to create atmosphere for this game. Kudos Capcom.

^ The reason Chris is in Africa is to investigate the origin of the Progenitor virus, which is what the T-Virus was refined from, so I don't think it is that random of a setting. I really like the lighting effects from stepping in and out of buildings.

Great game so far, I'm on chapter 4-1.

SPOILER

I am loving this game right now. Achievements are reasonable, the save system is not punishing, hordes of enemies are usually in balanced numbers, the only underwhelming thing so far is fight with the giant ogre. In RE4 the boss fight with the giant ogre was extremely intense, especially on the first playthrough, and the game seems like its only about a 10 hour game, but it has lots of replay value like RE4. RE4 was about 15 hours, but whatever, its still a great game. Also, the upgrade system maintained its greatness, nothing really better about it from RE4, but that's not saying anything bad at all. On a side not, I did see a little graphical tearing but nothing that really stood out, this game is going to be so gorgeous on the PC. In addition to this, there is room for several playthoughs, like for example playing it by yourself first, then playing in co-op, and getting all the achievements.

BASICALLY IF YOU HAVEN'T PICKED IT UP YET MAKE THE SACRIFICE AS THERE ARE NOT MANY GAMES WORTH $60 THESE DAYS.

The control works quite well with the trade off being slow enemies. I fell in love with the control scheme from RE4.

why do we need to same gems? I've found a ton, but can't really seem to find a use for ANY other than weapon upgrades!

In RE4 you could use some gems to add to other items, such as a crown, and which would have more value that each sold separately. If you have multiple of the same kind, I would sale all but one if you are that pressed.

I talked to someone who beat the game over the weekend and they said there is no combining of treasures like in RE4. Just sell them all as soon as you get them.

Aren't people who post on message boards live people? What message board to you frequent that is populated with bots?

(Yes, it was an actual live person you douche, we played a little bit of split screen and he told me to just sell everything because there is no combining )

"Capcom will be adding several new online multiplayer modes to Resident Evil 5, for a price. The "Versus" pack will allow up to four players to compete across two different game types, including Slayer's Rule, a "point-based game that challenges players to kill Majinis," and Survivor's Rule, which focuses on player-vs-player combat, with the last person standing claiming victory. Each game mode will support one-on-one, or two-vs-two play.

Capcom says Versus mode will be available "a few weeks" after the game's release and will cost 400 points ($5) and $4.99 on Xbox Live and PSN, respectively."

^That's complete BS that they are requiring people to pay an additional fee to play versus mode. Especially since it's only a "few weeks" after release.

^ Well, Capcom call BS on YOU.

Quote :
"Capcom calls "BS" on Resi DLC rants
"If any game warrants its price point, it's RE5," says Capcom

Look guys, you've gone and made Capcom mad. The publisher has deemed complaints over its paid Resident Evil 5 DLC "BS", saying that the game is "well worth every penny of $60".

A thread started on Capcom's official forums to rant about the "sham" of Capcom's DLC announcement didn't please VP of business development, Christian Svensson, who hit the forum with a few heated words of his own.

Here's the full response:

"I'm sorry guys, but this is the part where I have to call 'BS'. RE5 is well worth every penny of $60. A huge game, with tons of replay value, loads of unlockables, new weapons, co-op, mercenaries mode, etc. If any game warrants its price point, it's RE5.

"Prior to the announcement of the Versus mode, no one complained they weren't getting their money's worth with the initial release because it packs TONS of value because it is an amazing game. So if people were already satisfied with what the package had, when we offer MORE, why is it people feel they've been somehow cheated? If you don't find value in our secondary offerings, the choice is simple, don't purchase it. If you do find it valuable (and we hope you do) please do buy it and enjoy it.

"Secondly, whenever we do PDLC, that content exists with its own budgets, it's own profit and loss analysis with its own forecasts. If it didn't, that extra content wouldn't have been put into production, because it did not fit within the production budget of the base product.

"The content that is shipping in the full game exists within its own budget. The content shipping afterward (regardless of how close to release it is... because the goal IS to have it release relatively closely to the base product's release) exists within its own budget.

"To try and have it release in a timeframe that is relatively close to the initial release, development starts well before the base product is on the shelves. There's no other way to keep it within 3 to 6 weeks of the initial release (which is the goal).

"And again, for those people looking at this anew, the DLC in question is not an unlock on the disc.""

Yeah, charging for this add-on is so stupid. I will never own it, unless it becomes free, because I think this should have been part of the game itself.

Probably wont miss much. My friend is a RE freak and apparently he decided to just stop playing the game because it felt so confined (he described parts of it to feel almost like a rail shooter). Also not a fan of the way they split screen so that is doesn't take full advantage of the whole screen.
I played a little with him and it wasn't bad, not great though.
Only thing that really impressed him was the online multiplayer and how you could just pick up with someone else who wanted to play the same level (PS3 version)

"Many of the arguments against the DLC are, simply stated, either made in bad faith or delivered from a position of ignorance. Resident Evil 5 offers value commensurate with or exceeding its price. Uncharted lasts half as long, and offers no multiplayer of any kind. Nor does Dead Space. Or Bioshock. When talking about "Triple A" titles this generation, there's no way to credibly assert that Resident Evil 5 doesn't represent a complete product.

The Biohazard 5 disc on my desk, the review copy I played to completion, is dated January 7th, 2009. Given the quality of this build, it is entirely possible that these bits went into production as the retail game now available in stores. It didn't even include an online Mercenaries mode, which was added free of charge, but of course there's no room for that data in the accepted narrative. With no evidence of the fact, dark assertions that content was somehow withheld currently reign supreme. That's actually not an argument, it's divination. "

seedless, uh yeah he did. Did you miss the part about how he is an RE freak, he still has his dreamcast just so he can play the resident evil code veronica. And when we lived in the dorms we actually had one of the resident evil stands from the stores in the room. Like I said, he is a big fan of them. He just didn't find anything significantly new and exciting about this one besides the graphics and amount of bad guys. I mean he did give it a chance, I think he said he was most of the way through... just kinda stopped. I'm sure he'll finish as he will go crazy if he doesn't. Just interesting that someone who liked the story so much could not particularly find this game awe inspiring like some of the others.
I personally liked what I saw of it ok, not a fan of the split screen the way they did it but hey, its still usable on a 47inch
