I never said he didn't appear at two events during that whole time when it was the popular thing to do in hollywood. That hardly makes him "one of the most passionate civil rights supporters in Hollywood" and it was a very cool thing to do at the time in the eyes of many of the people who employed him. I just think it's stupid to paint the guy as a leader in the civil rights movement (he did that more than anyone) when he himself admits to only having gone to two events.

^ You don't know what the fuck you're talking about. Who cares if it was a "popular" or "cool" thing to do in the eyes of Heston's bosses--unfortunately, the fact is marching in support of civil rights was not a popular or cool thing to do in the eyes of a lot of moviegoers across America at the time.

Heston deserves credit for taking a generally unpopular stand during a very turbulent time in our nation's history:

In any event, this thread's about Clint and Spike--back on topic!

"In May of 1999 The New York Post reported that Lee said of National Rifle Association President Charlton Heston, 'Shoot him with a .44 Bulldog.'"

"Lee sparked controversy on a March 28, 2004 segment on ABC when he said that basketball player Larry Bird was overrated because of his race, saying, 'The most overrated player of all time, I would say it'd be Larry Bird. Now, Larry Bird is one of the greatest players of all time, but listen to the white media, it's like this guy was like nobody ever played basketball before him--Larry Bird, Larry Bird, Larry Bird, Larry Bird, Larry Bird.'"

"Eastwood maintained that Lee has had it in for him for two decades. 'He was complaining when I did "Bird" [the 1988 biopic of Charlie Parker]. Why would a white guy be doing that? I was the only guy who made it, that's why. He could have gone ahead and made it. Instead he was making something else.'"

Spike Lee is a fucking idiot. Clint's right--Spike should shut his face.

Spike Lee's a dick. I love that he processes Eastwood's response through a racial, victimized lens.

That being said, 25th Hour and Do the Right Thing are great movies.

^ I never said that Spike Lee isn't talented. But I--like Clint--just wish he would shut up sometimes.

Spike complains about Clint making a film about a black jazz musician. He complains that the same guy didn't put blacks in a film during a period when there weren't many blacks in the area--I mean, fuck, I think all Spike does is complain with a few movies slipped in here and there.

Yeah really. Imagine how much more hype Jordan would get if he were white!

That's not even an original thought. He's just recycling what Isiah Thomas and Dennis Rodman were saying back in the 80s

I really can't imagine any way that a black character could have been thrown in without absolutely ruining the historic credibility of the film.
