It's true, people think themselves to be a touch too important at places like that. I got a bit of that working retail at the bookstore. Usually it was something like "so and so software was out of stock because somebody heard we had a good price and now it takes our distributor about 6 weeks to get more into us" and they get all pissed off and freak out because we aren't going to go and hold microsoft employees at gunpoint to get them to ship the order faster. Having worked retail in the past I take a much less "OH NOES" attitude towards shopping for and buying things now. The only person in the store who would care is the floor-level manager you could talk to, and even he doesn't really care beyond the level of being sorry that you had to be inconvenienced (cause nobody wants to offer shitty service but sometimes you don't have a choice).

Now, in the case like this, where we have somebody who thinks that $1 worth of goods requires special attention paid to these goods so that they are custom-made to order in a rather particular fashion, I have to say no manager or employee at a given institution would really give a shit if you wanted to do things differently (and you made it complicated). Yes, I admit, with my college education and my drive to succeed I don't find 3/4 unsweet and 1/4 sweet tea to be a difficult thing to figure out when I make my tea. I also admit that I am not gonna go piss off some people who work at Mickey D's by trying to make them jump through hoops for me and to make my order custom (unless it's something simple like "plain burger please"). The people who work at fast food places around here generally don't give a shit, because the people that do tend to give a shit can easily find better jobs working somewhere else (because that small amount of give a shit is worth $texas).

Also, you can just say black people and mexicans, or you can throw out racial slurs if you like. Sugar-coating your prejudices by referring to racial groups by little stereotypes just makes it seem like you're trying too hard to not seem prejudiced or racist. I'll admit, I'm throwing stones from a glass house here, but I try not to let this shit control my life or exaggerate things that piss me off like not getting my way at the nation's shittiest fast food restaurant. It's my own personal demon that I try to control, and showing it off on the internet would just make me (or anyone else) out to be an asshole.

Plus, if you start using the real racial slurs, we can get WRAL up in this thread and get it deleted! Wouldn't that be exciting?

Yeah, and I've tried asking for half and half. So they sit there and fill it with sweet tea and then they remember with like, 1 ounce left, that they should put some unsweet in it and they think that's fuckin' 1/2 and 1/2. Asking for 3/4, 1/4 at least makes them pause.
