Everyone always think it's going to be better. There was a couple year run, there, but I'm not sold yet. Florida, barring some miracle run on free agents, will be utter shit. Washington should be good. Carolina should be a playoff team, but that depends on how the defensive situation is addressed.

As for the Lightning... It's Ryan Malone and Gary Roberts. Now I personally think Malone is going to be good (way back in the Canes thread last season I proposed that we look into him), but so far he has 4 seasons under his belt with 43, 44, 31, and 51 points. 3 of those years were with Crosby and Malkin. This guy hasn't proven himself worth $4.5 million yet, and Gary Roberts will be injured most of the season and that will be $2 million thrown away. Their defense isn't that good, they still haven't found a goalie, and Barry Melrose could be an epic disaster.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot... The Thrashers. LOL.

Vrbata had MORE points than Malone, and didn't play on nearly as good of a team. That's what kills me about free agent signing. 3 mil for someone with 56 points, but 4.5 million with 51 points.

1st line phoenix was horrible. I watched his games. He carried that line, they didn't do anything for him. He was the man making the plays. Put him on the 3rd line in Tampa, it will be the same situation.

The Canes don't have money to sign anyone except for a minor player, nor would they want to sign Stillman or any scoring forward. The reason Cole was expendable to begin with is because they had 10 forwards occupying 9 spots.
