Yes, it is an awesome game. I beat it rather quickly though. Not saying it's shorter than any other mario game, just fairly easy.

if you like things like sudoku, crosswords, and other puzzle games get a DS its what the stylus was made for. An added bonus are the nintendo-esque games and the gems like gta chinatown wars, tetris, mariokart, etc

It's been a while since I've looked at the differences but why do you recommend the acekard over the dstt? It's less than $6 and it does everything I can think of that you'd need. I've bought 5 of them so far and never had a hitch with any of them except for the spring on one of them gave out and wouldn't hold the memory card in place.

Also, I meant to make a new thread or have an old one bumped, but has anybody been keeping track of the upcoming releases for the PSP lately? They've got some seriously awesome games coming out in the next 6 months or so. A portable Rock band that looks like the spiritual successor to Ampltiude and Frequency, versions of LBP, and Assassin's Creed, A new Tekken, 3 new square games including an all new Kingdom Hearts, a new Motostorm game, and probably the one that I'm most excited about, a new Soul Calibur game. I'm really looking forward to that.

Looks like it's time to dig the ol' PSP out of the closet and dust it off. They're finally putting out some games worth playing again.

I was the one that actually requested this thread be bumped, because I was in the market for some type of mobile gaming. I will begin traveling more with my job and will probably have spare time to game.

With the new games for each platform, what's the current consensus?

^^^^ It's just known as the most reliable cheap card you can buy. I wouldn't say you've been lucky because I'm sure more work than don't, but I know that people have had problem with about every other cheapo card. Plus, the interface is nice too.

Do you need to mod the DS at all or anything? You just load the rom files onto the microSD and go from there?

No, the DSi added an SD slot, but removed the GBA slot.

the acekard 2i is/was the first to be able to play roms on the dsi, so you would just get one of those to play the same roms.

I need to get in on this. So I can just copy my Super Punch-Out! SNES rom from my hard drive to a microSD, throw the microSD into the acekard, load up the acekard on the DS and go from there? No need to install an SNES emulator or anything?

^ You need the emulator: http://www.snemul.com/ds/?p=35 . It isn't something you install, its just like a DS rom, you just drag and drop onto the card.

However, make note, that SNES emulation is really pushing it, many games aren't playable at all and many have some serious issues. Compatibility List.

The NES emulator on the other hand is top notch (google for nesDS) I prefer it over the emulators on the PC.

Not to rehash a years old argument, but I think the only thing that can be said is that DS != PSP. They both have their strengths and weaknesses. Both of them are insanely easy to pirate games for, so saying that piracy killed one is pretty misinformed.

Personally, I have both and have barely picked up either in months. If I had to pick only one, I'd go with the PSP just because it can do so much more than the DS can and the games coming out for it in the next couple of months are truly exciting looking. I can't think of the last game for the DS that I looked forward to.

I think what made me trade in my PSP for DS is that you can pick up most DS games for 30 minutes and put them down where PSP games don't always allow for that. The main reason I held on to my PSP for as long as I did was Final Fantasy Tactics (one of the best games ever imo) just because it catered a little bit more to the couple minutes I would play on the john or laying in bed or in the car.

I take that back. Is there any point for me to look for the DSi as opposed to a Lite? I know you cannot do the above with it, but there has to be a gba port "mod" to plug and play and use the SD card, and basically give you the same ability?

I'm guessing I could get a Lite cheaper than the DSi these days

^I like the browser that you can download on the DSi, but then again I still only have a Razr for a cell phone. If you're going to only use it for modding, then you probably won't care about the future downloadable games that the DSi will offer (though nothing great has been announced yet).

^^ If you want to play gba roms, you are going to have to buy a slot 2 cart. (ds lite and ds phat only). They can be picked up on dealextreme. Just search for the ezflash 3-in-1.

If you're buying a handheld mainly for older nes games then you DEFINITELY need to get a PSP. The emulator scene for the PSP is faaaar superior to the DS one mainly because the system is much more powerful. There are PSP emulators for the NES, SNES, Sega Master System/Game Gear, and even an emulator for the N64 that lets you play some of the games pretty well (It's still a work in progress, but last I checked, Mario 64 was very playable.

I mean, you'd probably be happy with either, but if all you're planning on doing is loading it up with old ROMS, you'd have a much much MUCH bigger selection of games if you went with the PSP.

So if I were to purchase a DSi, I could then purchase the Acekard 2i which plugs into the SD slot on the unit. From this point, I am able to insert an SD card into the Acekard to drag and drop files to my DSi? If so, then I would be able to download homebrew applications from the internet, and throw onto my DSi, correct?

The only way to play a GBA game would be to download a GBA emulator + GBA rom, and move it over to the DSi...is that true?

Are they DS specific emulators, or any emulator that you would normally use on your computer?

I've got some big business trips coming up and looking to finalize my handheld purchase.

This hasn't been discussed as much lately, but what about the PSP? How much modding is required to install homebrew/emulators on the system? Is it as simple as it is for the DSi?

Is it possible to install backups of your games onto each system as well, if ripped to your harddrive?

You'd probably be better off asking all your questions over at a forum dedicated to this kind of stuff. I used to read the forums over at maxconsole and for the most part those people know what they're talking about. There's probably not a single question you asked that hasn't already been asked and answered 100 times over there or on any number of other websites dedicated to this sort of thing.

I'm pretty sure the acekard 2 doesn't go in the SD slot, I assume it's like every other card and it uses the DS slot. As far as GBA games, I dunno how that works on the DSi (or even if it works) last I checked there wasn't a GBA emulator for the DS, but I haven't looked in a long time because I don't need to, if I want to play GBA games, I have a slot 2 device for that.

I've been out of the PSP hacking game for close to a year now, but it used to be extremely easy to do. From a quick glance over at maxconsole it looks like the newer PSPs aren't as (easily) hackable (yet). If you're interested I'd try and get my hands on a used PSP 2000 series and a pandora battery from dealextreme (~$6-8 last I checked) and be done with it. And then you can play all the homebrew and "backup" games you want.

Speaking of, I never thought I'd say this but Rock Band on the PSP is really a lot of fun. It takes a while to get used to, but overall it's a much more fun experience than Guitar Hero over on the DS.
