election years always seem to bring out the few that think their letters on a computer screen will totally change a race.
have you seriously been linking obama to hilter AND then claiming none of McCain's supporters walk all over America?

^^ now don't you go getting all stupid on me too, please. i swear, you're one of the only few 'conservatives' who keep me from losing all hope.
how much population is the African Americans in this country? come on, you can do it.... just roughly speaking? 20 percent, right. Now, how much does Obama need to win the presidency? very good... almost there.... yes, 50 percent or more, very good! now... are the majority of his supporters.... white? or black? come on, you can do it. do you want me to post a link to the definition of "majority" ?
Quote : | "You make it sound like white guilt is your biggest motivation for being an Obama fanboy." |
now thats really just sad. So, because I support Obama, it must be because I have "white guilt" .... oh dear, how racist is that? i always thought you were better than that.
i don't owe you a goddamned thing, of course, but I've been an obama supporter since I 'discovered' him speaking at the '04 DNC. My wife and I looked at each other right then and said: "Damn he's good." Further reasearch into who he was, and where he had come from, made me think even then that he had a real possibility of becoming president someday. I just didn't think it would happen so soon.
you know why? not because he was black. but because of what he said, and how he said it. because this is a man who doesnt resort to jingoistic slogans and flag waving, but will actually sit down and negotiate with our allies and our "enemies" and find common ground from which we can work and build peace. a man who, unlike our current president, is thoughtful and lucid and sounds like he has more than a GED. someone who studied constitutional law and understands it.
the fact that he's of mixed black and white heritage is only a bonus, because in addition to all his other skills, he can be a catalyst for the national discussions necessary to bridge the racial divide.
there aint no guilt about it. some of my distant ancestors were slave owners, but that has absolutely nothing to do with who i am. that I understand we need to recognize the violence and injustice that has been done and continues to be done to people on this earth based on discrimination against their skin color and ethnicity, and that we need to put an end to it, is just a fact of humanity and our history.

I'm not saying that you're only motivated by white guilt. However it comes across that way when someone makes a vague comment that you construe as racist and immediately pledge to support Obama harder because "people like you".
That was directed primarily at the tone of your comment, not at you personally. Clearly you're more intelligent than that.6/24/2008 6:19:39 PM |

Mr Joshua is right on. White guilt permeates from the pores of half of you Obama lovers.
How is it racist to state a fact? Here's a fact: the vast majority of Obama stickers I have seen have been on black peoples' cars. Now, overreact and call me a racist..
And whoever did the whole talking to a third grader routine about the percentage of blacks in the country...tell me by how wide of a margin the last few presidential elections have been won? If you don't think 20% of the population can swing that, then I dunno what to tell you. 6/24/2008 6:40:10 PM |

^^ its only to you and people like you, that this is a "black vs. white thing"
Obama won over Hillary by almost 70-30 here in Seattle. I have seen a TON of Obama stickers and signs on cars and house ALL OVER TOWN, and probably 95% of them have been white folks.
Obama won here, and in Iowa, Montana, Oregon -- predominantly white states -- as well as the majority of other states because of his character, not because of his skin color.
the fact that you people are bewailing Obamas popularity everywhere, and trying to paint it as a "black thing" really shows you to be the ignorant, fear-ridden, racist rednecks that you are.

I didn't say anything about why whites are voting for who they are. I simply agreed that a lot of Obama supporters seem to have some white guilt going on...supported by the fact that you jmped all over HUR for stating an observation.
However, I do believe there may be a correlation between receiving 90% of the black vote and him being black. If this isn't to be a black/white thing, someone forgot to tell the black people.6/24/2008 7:04:18 PM |

1. Obama says he might send troops to Pakistan Democratic hopeful said Musharraf should do more about terrorists
Quote : | "Analysts say an invasion could risk destabilizing Pakistan, breeding more militancy and undermining Musharraf. The Pakistani Foreign Office, protective of its national sovereignty, has warned that U.S. military action would violate international law and be deeply resented.
A military invasion could be risky, given Pakistan’s hostile terrain and the suspicion of its warrior-minded tribesmen against uninvited outsiders." |

2. Obama's Flag Pin Flip-Flop?
Quote : | "In case you missed it, Barack Obama's American flag lapel pin is back. How long it will stay on is anyone's guess.
This week, after eschewing the patriotic symbol for quite some time, Obama started wearing the pin to selected events. On Tuesday, he was sans pin on the Senate floor, but then later donned it while speaking to working-class voters in Missouri during the evening. 'I haven't been making such a big deal about it. Others have. Sometimes I wear it, sometimes I don't,' Obama said. 'We were talking with a group of veterans yesterday. Over the last several weeks people have been handing me flag pins. I thought it was appropriate.' Asked if he will continue to wear the pin, Obama said, 'If it ends up being on another suit, I might leave it one day, but it's something that I've done before and I'll certainly wear it again.'
Obama may make it sound like just a random fashion choice, but there is a large swath of Americans who take symbols like the pledge of allegiance, the national anthem, and, yes, the flag in its many iterations very seriously. And, as former Clinton adviser Doug Schoen pointed out in an op-ed in the Wall Street Journal this week, these are people — mostly white working-class folk — whom Obama can ill afford to offend given his losses in Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.
The pin saga started on October 3, 2007 when a local ABC reporter asked Obama why he didn't wear one. Instead of the standard Beltway refrain, 'My patriotism speaks for itself,' Obama launched into a long explanation of his decision-making process: 'The truth is that right after 9/11, I had a pin. Shortly after 9/11, particularly because as we're talking about the Iraq war, that became a substitute for, I think, true patriotism, which is speaking out on issues that are of importance to our national security,' Obama said in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. 'I decided I won't wear that pin on my chest. Instead I'm going to try to tell the American people what I believe what will make this country great and hopefully that will be a testimony to my patriotism.'" |
Quote : | "The furor died down and Obama went pin-less for the better part of six months until April 15, when a veteran in a town hall meeting outside of Pittsburgh handed him a pin and asked him to wear it, which Obama did for the rest of that day. The reemergence of the pin led to a much-ridiculed question on the issue at a much-ridiculed ABC debate later that week. 'I have never said that I don't wear flag pins or refuse to wear flag pins,' Obama explained. 'This is the kind of manufactured issue that our politics has become obsessed with and, once again, distracts us from what should be my job when I'm commander-in-chief, which is going to be figuring out how we get our troops out of Iraq and how we actually make our economy better for the American people.'" |

3. Obama Seeks to Clarify His Disputed Comments on Diplomacy
Quote : | "'I didn't say that I would meet unconditionally as John McCain maintained, because that would suggest whether it was useful or not, whether it was advancing our interests or not, I would just do it for the sake of doing it,' he said. 'That's not a change in position, that's simply responding to distortions of my position.'" |

At A July 2007 Debate, Obama Announced He Would Personally Meet With Leaders Of Iran, North Korea, Syria And Other Hostile Nations 'Without Precondition':
Quote : | "Question: '[W]ould you be willing to meet separately, without precondition, during the first year of your administration, in Washington or anywhere else, with the leaders of Iran, Syria, Venezuela, Cuba and North Korea, in order to bridge the gap that divides our countries?'
Obama: 'I would. And the reason is this, that the notion that somehow not talking to countries is punishment to them--which has been the guiding diplomatic principle of this administration--is ridiculous.'" |

Obama drops 'silly' presidential seal
Quote : | "One Obama aide told Fox News that the widely panned seal was intended as a one-off for Friday's event. But Atlantic.com reported that the candidate himself felt the image had been a 'silly mistake.'
An Obama spokesman could not be reached for comment.
The seal was greeted with universal derision by US media, and the campaign of Republican candidate John McCain called it 'laughable, ridiculous, preposterous and revealing all at the same time.'" |

I was for the seal--before I was against it! It never fails: All you have to do is wait a while on Obama and he will FLIP-FLOP like a fish in a bucket every time. Was the seal a one-time thing or was it a "silly mistake"--or neither?

There was an article posted a while back about Obama's management style that essentially said he allows his opinion to be overruled if a strong case is made. One example was his original logo - which he believed to be too corporate but he gave in to the people he was paying to be experts in the matter.

I'll post whatever and watch the Obamanauts fall over each other in mock outrage. It's much more entertaining than when I was trying to have real conversations about complex policy issues, since no one cares about that type of thing.

I doubt it was 100 but its meaningless at this stage to discuss the particulars of policies. It's more meaningful to look at the directions of ideas, because it's impossible to say now what exact policy implementation is going to be needed in 6 months or 1 year.
McCain wants to do what Bush has been doing, and particularly economically (which obviously doesn't work), while Obama is looking at new strategies.6/25/2008 11:55:19 AM |
