Loved it.

LOVED IT.

The first half hour is the most lyrical thing I've seen in years. It's Punch-Drunk Love with animated robots (and better editing). There's about ten minutes in the second act that drag, but I can forgive that...it's the segment that gets just a tad preachy and then the third act action kicks in.

I don't want to spoil anything, so I'll just say that there are a ton of winks, nods, and inside jokes related to space films that had me flipping out at every turn.

I'll probably go again on Saturday.

Agreed. The first act is so good that I was starting to wonder if the rest of the movie would be able to live up to it. It did.

If anyone is on the fence about seeing this, know this much: I took a pair of friends who hardly even knew the movie existed. They didn't recognize it by the title, and when I said it was about a robot, the response I got was, "Oh yeah, isn't that one of those animated childrens' films?"

By the time we got five minutes into the first act, they both had turned to me and said, "This is already fucking awesome."

Good stuff from Ratzenberger as always, BTW.

oh snap

my friend took a bunch of kids to see it

and brought me back a free wall-e watch

AWESOME

Just a blurb from AIC:

Quote :
"This is nothing at all like anything Pixar has attempted before. I would say that it’s Brad Bird good, but really, this is even better than that. Wall-E is in a class by itself, a nearly indescribable masterpiece of epic proportions that will, regardless of commercial success, be regarded in the film community as one of the very best films in the history of animation. This will no doubt be spoken of in the future alongside such works as Fantastic Planet and Fantasia. It is arguably the best thing Disney has ever had their name on and clearly the best with the name Pixar. It will take the Academy Award for best animated next year without anything resembling a fight and will no doubt be on almost every Top Ten list you read at the end of the year."

"Rated G with slight metal on metal crime.

Wall-E is the story of a trash collecting robot who dreams of finding love in line with Hello Dolly, which plays in many different brief video clips. To be directed by Al Gore, this movie was pretty good! It wasn’t quite as preachy as his other environmental films and it didn’t have his annoying voice. For some reason, Yahoo, IMDB, and the credits have some Andrew Stanton guy incorrectly listed because this was definitely directed by Al Gore.

I expected a normal Pixar film that was light hearted and extremely funny, not a politically driven film about how I shouldn’t drive my Hummer with my mini-fridge plugged in the back seat, emptying my trash out my window while drinking a mega huge slurpie and eating liquefied cupcakes, but that’s just how I roll. I don’t drive a gas guzzler, and I don’t intentionally litter, but if I want to see a light hearted kids movie, please don’t shove your GREEN ideals down my throat.

Wall-E was really good. It isn’t as funny as you’re expecting, but it’s a good story with some extremely awesome animation. It does run a little slow though. I had to fight myself from falling asleep a couple of times and my BlackBerry vibrated once which really made me want to see how my Fantasy Baseball team was doing, but by the time I reached to my pocket it was funny again. It’s not my favorite Pixar movie, but it’s definitely worth checking out. By itself it’s Catch the Matinee, but see below for further instruction.

If you’re one of the boneheads that comes in late, you missed the best Pixar short to date…Presto…I can’t find the full version online yet, but a preview is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dV0v09U30eE. It was hilarious and actually better than Wall-E in my opinion. If you get to the theater on time or early and can catch this short combined with Wall-E it is Worth Watching. "

FYI no one go see this at raleigh grande. the focus was all fucked up. i talked to who i think was the manager afterwards and he said all three films he got were like that and that was "how it was filmed"

cha right.

and by fucked up i mean the top of the screen was crisp and it got steadily less clear heading down

I thought it was fucking fantastic. The graphics were incredible at times, the music played is some of that old school stuff (I like) and the plot is decent. It went a little over the top with the insinuated messages on the way that we're leading our lives, but I definitely think it's the best animated film I've seen, especially with so little talking.

i agree that it gets just a tad preachy (the aforementioned dragging ten minutes), but nowhere near as preachy as happy feet, and happy feet isn't fucking incredible for its first half hour

i saw it there and had no problems, but they seem to have it playing on three or four screens. but yeah, if it's out of focus in certain parts of the screen, then there's not much they can do right that moment aside from try to get as much of the screen in focus as possible. this is likely a lens problem -- or a problem with the alignment of the projector i suppose.

HAHAH yes.

Through out Wall-E I kept hoping GLaDOS's voice would show up.

It's such a touching movie <3 I'll probably take my younger cousins to go see this in theaters in the next few weeks.

I loved all the throw backs to the older pixar movies (Rex in Wall-e's home), and while no one else cares, I loved the credits at the end with the traveling through arts theme.

I don't think it was too overly preachy... I knew going in that it was a movie based off of how polluted things could get and I think they did an adequate job of portraying it. And I thought it was really funny the Captain's of the ship got progressively fatter.

Also the part when they were with the crazy robots, running away from the "police" robots and they came to that big squad of them, then Wall-E cut loose the one with the crazy arms and he went ballistic on them, that was fucking hilarious.

Yeah, later is better. The summer release kills the idea of seeing it early to avoid people. I saw it at midnight and there were still three or four kids at the screening.

With that said, it's not the sort of movie that will bring giggles at every turn, so it might be okay.

Thanks for the heads up about Wall-E being out of focus at the Grande...

I know in theater 7 (which is where you must have seen it) the courtains got stuck and you can see more of the screen than you are supposed so, which makes people think they are missing part of the movie when they see black screen...when actually there is just supposed to be a curtain there...

but as far as a "out of focus" look goes, I didn't personally talk to anyone about it, but heard chatter on the radio, and when I walked in I thought it looked fine. I will be checking it out again today.

Honestly, I think someone might have just been a bit off on the threading of the film and some manager might have been a little unclear as to what the problem was. I know there were only customer concerns with it during one show. And when I walked in it was still the short and looked fine to me. I'm sorry I failed you.

But thanks for the heads up.
