I do like that the new drum set has attachments for cymbals at a later point

now if only when I RMA my drum set I could get a pair of those back in the mail.....

the best part about it: you can just buy an electronic drum brain and plug it in, and you've got yourself a real (fake) drumset. For someone like me, who was considering getting a real set anyway, that's totally awesome.

Kotaku had an 83 track list of rumored songs. Most of them were in the rumored 60 track list. Take it for what it's worth.

And on to the leaked track lists. The first is from Demp, a commenter on 8bitfix, and he's got the FOAF who saw the email source. That's like fourth-hand hearsay, but whatever, this ain't court."

So that 84 song list up there was just confirmed to be legit. Also announced, they will all be master tracks, no covers. And there will be DLC 20 songs available at launch that you will be able to get for FREE.

WTF? You have to pay to get the RB1 songs into RB2?

It's under $5, but still? what is that fee for?

http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/14/rock-band-disc-content-can-be-ported-to-rb2-for-5/

I think that's a really trivial amount for the convenience. I wonder how they'll prevent people from borrowing their friend's disc and downloading the data. Maybe each RB1 disc has some sort of unique identity.

hahahahahaha

so much for them "caring for the fans"

^ even if it is "trivial", when does it stop?

Why not $0.25 every time you want to download a demo?

$1 to hook up your xbox to your pc to play music?

Just because it's not breaking the bank doesn't mean it's not completely BS

I don't know where people get this idea that game companies are altruistic entities out for the customers' best interest. They're businesses trying to turn a profit. In that respect Harmonix has demonstrated an overwhelming willingness to advocate for consumers. Just because they can't make heavens open and the angels sing doesn't mean they're incredibly greedy. They do have to work with EA, the company who made people PAY to unlock codes.

Rock Band 2 already looks to give the best value of any music rhythm game to date. 84 songs, all master tracks and 20 additional songs for free. $5 for the convenience is nothing.

possible reasons for the transfer fee:
-to make a tiny bit off the thieves who transfer the songs from a rented or borrowed disc
-to slightly deter said thieves
-to recoup the cost to develop the transfer process
-if the 'transfer' involves downloading anything at all from live (possibly the entire songs), MS would want a fee even if it would otherwise be free
-maybe some bands had a change-of-media clause or somesuch that entitles them to a few cent per transfer

If you don't think $4-5 is worth it to avoid disc swapping, just don't pay for it. you're sure as shit not entitled to it at all

I completely agree. I never said that Harmonix wasn't out to get your money. I've just always said there are varying levels of greed out there and from what I've seen, Harmonix is on the low end of that scale.

Narrowminded haters like Drovkin just want to put them all in the same "Dey took er money" basket and be done with it.

Here's an explanation as to why there's a $5 fee.

Basically they have to re-license every song over again in order to put it into RB2

they also mentioned some of the RB1 songs won't be making it over to RB2. Train kept rollin' is pretty much guaranteed not to make the jump because of GH:Aerosmith. Good riddance.

So is it better or worse for music gaming that Act and Harm split?

On the one hand, it now causes competition and they are always striving to outdo the other

but then again, we don't have access to several songs because of licensing and all that junk

Yeah, that re-lisencing fee is a royal pain. Konami had to go through the same thing for DDR. That's why Pump It Up usually just lisenced a few specific unique artists to do songs specifically for their songs. Unfortunately, that cop-out isn't an option for a game like this that's actually going to be, you know, POPULAR.
I cried when I saw Battery on the list. For one, I'd love to play this song, but god damn, I think that's about the only thing I could think of that would be harder than Blackened.

Watching some of the youtube music videos on these songs in RB2 though, I do wish they could splash those in the background, lol

got the offspring pack plus bad to the bone and under the bridge...

pretty fly is pretty fun on drums because you get to hit all the other drums in the song that aren't the regular drumset

btw...this is rumored 20 songs:

1. Honest Bob - Tatooine
2. Against Me! - Stop!
3. Static-X - Push It
4. George Thorogood - Bad to the Bone
5. Blink 182 - Dammit
6. Free - All Right Now
7. Dead Kennedys - Holiday in Cambodia
8. Hot Hot Heat - Bandages
9. Bad Religion - Suffer
10. Turbonegro - All My Friends Are Dead
11. The Haunted - Shadow World
12. Pennywise - The Western World
13. Rancid - Fall Back Down
14. Sublime - Santeria
15. Taking Back Sunday - What’s It Feel Like To Be A Ghost
16. The Breeders - Cannonball
17. Sepultura - Refuse/Resist
18. Queens of the Stone Age - No One Knows
19. The Killers - Somebody Told Me
20. Harvey Danger - Cream and Bastards Rise

but i dont get how these would be free since some of them were released as dlc already, that'd be bs unless they give me my money back

I don't have this yet, so I haven't been keeping up with the news about DLC or anything. I'm waiting to get the full bundle for one price. Should come out this month.

Any thoughts on the new drum set? Better than the first or what?

just preordered mine: http://search.deepdiscount.com/search?w=rock%20band%202&
free shipping, no sales tax. waiting another week is worth saving $30, i think.

i doubt i'll be getting the cymbal pack. it'd be lame to hit the cymbals and have tom sounds come out of them. the double bass pedal in the future might be useful, i might end up getting it.

In the Drum Trainer and during drum fills, the cymbals act as cymbals. It's better than nothing, anyway.

and the double bass pedal is really pretty useless, since they don't even chart double bass.

has anyone tried using pads with the new drum set? I've got some 1/4" gum rubber covers on my RB1 set and was wondering if the change in sensitivity will prevent them from working with the RB2 set.

I really like the velocity-sensitive aspect, and especially the fact that it's wireless. But I'm kinda reluctant because I got a really good RB1 set out of the box, it's the only thing that hasn't crapped out on me and I'm not sure I want to take the gamble with a RB2 set.
