its a tournament format so its all about advancing to the next round, but for right now State is leading all 3 of their matchups

Bad recollection on my part. Just checked Wikipedia on the 1999 tournament and the ACC only got 3 teams in the tournament that year, which further shows how weak the conference was that year.

- Duke - National Runner-Up, lost to UConn 77-74
- Maryland - Sweet 16 team that lost to St. John's 76-62
- UNC - 1st round exit against Weber State 76-74

I dunno if somebody did something (cheaters) but at 6:30ish I was listening to 99.9 and the guy running it said "I guess State fans have made a hobby out of this" because I guess State's poll numbers had gone up a lot. My only thought was "shit, somebody on tww broke your poll..."

It wasn't the Duke fans that helped them get a huge lead over the UNC teams, it was all the State fans voting against the Carolina teams. If the Duke fans were really showing up then the 2001 Duke vs. 1973 State matchup would have been a lot closer.

well, considering none of the new teams really have anything to compete with here, I guess it's acceptable. Also considering that all of the teams in the bracket were from the 9 team conference, except the 2005 UNC team.

clearly if some of the UNC teams were winning, it would be because they are such great teams, and not because UNC fans were (hypothetically) doing the bulk of voting

damn, Tar heel fans are really drinking the kool aid of that 8-4 prediction in football too.

I think undoubtedly they'll have a better record due to their schedule, but I think one person on that board has predicted anything lower than 8-4, some are even saying 10-2 lol.

Insidecarolina is the most populated college sports-based website. Their member/subscription base trumps ALL. Based on numbers they should win. But I think the majority of their members are "older" people who could care less about poll skewing other than the initial vote. TWW at least is a majority younger kids who (a) have nothing better to do than repeatedly vote on these websites or (b) put together programs that continuously vote for State.

Its pretty damn funny.

^Good point. But we also win in a lot of other polls that aren't just against UNC.

I also think that since we have no recent success in any of our sports that we feel like we have to hang our hat on something...and that something can be polls about the past success of our teams ('83 and '74) and/or players (Torry and Philip).

WTF?! WRAL decided that since no UNC team advanced then they'd make some of them advance anyways and redid the poll. Motherfucker. The 1983 team didn't move on against 1993 UNC.
