dude... funniest story actually...

I was driving down Peace St. from Krispy Kream, and I had a box of 12.

Cop pulls me over, presumably for speeding, and comes up to the window and says, "do you know why I pulled ya over sir?"

And I couldn't help myself...I looked at the box of 12 and then back at the cop and I said, "cuz you can smell it!"

haha sike...didnt really happen

funnier real story.

the cops in greensboro do this thing -- they get on the roof of the krispy kreme, fill the front lot up with their cars, and have all this blue lights and shit, and theyre all over the donut shop. its a sight to see

proceeds go to some charity

so i guess you have never made the same mistake twice, or even 3 times, or even 4 times? you are just more perfect than me. i wasn't exactly a very responsible person in college, and I doubt I am the only one.

ahah

as much as i hate to admit it... in a roundabout way, getting off with warnings kept me out of prison.

kept the record at a minimal level that allowed for decent plea bargains. but i think if i had any more "points" on my last pleas i would have had mandatory prison term.

^^^^ there is a difference between a DUI and other mistakes. A DUI is kind of a big thing. You think people should be given another chance after 2-3 murders?

i had a cop not put me at fault after i rear-ended an SUV

although he did take an hour+ to get from the AF substation to the AF/Trailwood intersection and i think he just didn't care so much as hook me up

i guess i'll call that one a draw

[Edited on July 8, 2008 at 12:55 PM. Reason : my only other associations with cops was getting a speeding ticket and them narcing on my narcing]

yet again, i am not defending what I did, and freely admit that I was a fuck up in college. almost every day i thank God or whoever for looking out for me and keeping me and others around me safe from my idiotic choices. you can make this thread about bashing me for driving drunk in the past if you would like, that is fine with me.

I hit a deer late one night on 49 in the middle of nowhere. A SHP officer came to help me and he was one of the nicest guys I have ever met. It was in February so it was really cold, and he told me to turn off my car and get in the patrol car with him so we could fill out all the paper work. We ended up getting sidetracked in conversation a few times about off the wall kind of stuff. He was awesome.

That's for the Special Olympics. It started in High Point, and now most of the triad police stations participate. It really is a cool thing.

My front right tire went flat along a curve in the highway at night one time. There was very little shoulder on the road and there was a guard rail so I couldn't get off the road. The curve was pretty sharp so you wouldn't have been able to see me until you were right on top of my car, and being basically in the lane made me very nervous. We called the HP and they sent a trooper out to turn his lights on so I would be more visible as I changed the tire. I'm not sure if it actually helped all the much, but I figured people would notice some flashing lights as they rounded the corner much better than some dim hazards.

Back when we lived in Durham, our house got broken into, and our Dad's .45 got stolen. The cops not only found the gun when they stopped the thief at a DUI checkpoint, but returned it to Dad, instead of holding it for evidence for fucking ever.

I used to run a lot, and I would train on the roads around the neighborhood. This one asshole refused to train his rottewiler, and wouldn't restrain it at all, so it would chase me a lot. One time, it happened right as a cop was coming around the corner. The cop ordered the home owner to restrain the dog, AND made him give me an apology.

The Crabtree Mall security guards were always awesome when I worked at Cyberstation. They'd come in and play our shooting games a lot (and actually score well on them, which surprised me.) They were always handy for intimidating punk teenagers who are trying to cheat at the ticket games or piss off the DDRers. Not that, you know, the DDRers were all that nice, but DAMN did they spend a lot of money in that arcade.

When my appendix almost blew up, I tried to drive myself to the hospital, and realized about half-way I wasn't gonna make it, so I called 911. While I got loaded into the ambulance, one of the cops was nice enough to drive my car over to the station so it wouldn't get ticketed or anything.

I've got lots more stories. Cops are pretty cool to me.

I axed them about this the other day. Well being a security guard, yet being a sworn officer. Some of them are master marksmen according to the handguns they had to qualify with. Rather impressive, but kinda sad since crabtree won't let them carry.

I've got to say that Knightdale police were on point when I got rear-ended by a drunk driver there. The guy got in my face and was slurring out some junk in spanish. At first I put my hand out and took a step back to create distance between us. Then he came back in my face so I pushed him. I thought I was going to have to fight him and his brother, but the police came flying up with their blue lights on. I'd estimate it took them less than two minutes to show up when the call was made.

officer discovered the following things wrong when I got pulled over:

1) taillights didn't work, and it was at night
2) no registration
3) inspection was over a year overdue.

What I got:

1) no citations, no ticket, nothing.

if i was black or hispanic, tho, i might have gotten a citation. being aznizzle does wonders for you, everyone assumes you're innocent.

i got pulled over in jacksonville. i honestly didn't see the speed limit change from 55 to 45. i was running 60 and he pulled me over...

cop: guess you didn't see the speed limit sign back there
me: i sure didn't
cop: can i see your license?
me: here you go
cop: you ever had a speeding ticket before?
me: not a single one
cop: i wouldn't wanna be the one to break that cherry. how about slowing down for me?
me: sure thing. thanks.

coolest cop ever

also, there are countless times that a cop has helped me. such as every time they issue a DWI...

I got in a wreck when I was 16 that was technically my fault

the cop knew me, though, and did not issue any tickets to either party

oh, and I was driving, pretty obviously drunk, and I had a beer in hand - and a friend of mine that was riding with me saw the cop and took my beer and threw it out the window

in the process, a bunch of beer got spilled all over me, which I'm sure the cop noticed because he asked me to go sit in his car

he didn't make me blow or anything, he just issued me a ticket for speeding at 12 over

so I got lucky that the cop kinda helped me out in that respect

my question for those with good experiences:

did the cop really do anything that any other helpful citizen couldn't (or wouldn't) have done?
did the cop do anything that AAA couldn't do?

only time I've ever asked a cop for directions, he didn't know where it was

however I do have a friend of mine who's a cop in another part of the state, he helped me out a lot with some stuff.

I was managing a restaraunt and a belligerent drunk homeless guy tried to come into the kitchen. We kicked him out and I saw that he was heading for the front doors. I raced ahead and got through the doors and had them locked behind me.

My hostess called the cops and they rolled up heavy and took care of the dude.

One stopped and held a flashlight for me once while I was changing a tire in the dark.

My good experiences with police FAR outnumber the bad ones.
1. 2:30 AM, walking back to my dorm in a small town with bored cops who loved to write DIP tickets (paging JCASHFAN). Cops pulled over, told me that it wasn't safe for a young lady to walk alone, and drove me the .5 mile to my dorm.
2. Getting ready for last call, I was the only one working, and about 75 drunk fratholes poured into the bar and just took over the place. Cops were there in minutes, and I never had to close alone again (bonus!). Several more instances of removing belligerent drunks, but none quite as overwhelming as that.
3. Two flat tires on the way to work one morning, cop called the special tow truck company that the city contracted with and told them to tow me for free.
4. In a minor accident, not at fault, other party didn't understand the traffic laws and insisted I was at fault. Went on for so long that the cop cited him for all kinds of other violations while he was at it.
5. Purse stolen from the restaurant where I was working. They caught the thief and returned it within about a month.
6. Several warnings and one great big break that really made me straighten up. But you don't want to hear about those.
As far as the other way around, there was one VA state trooper who liked to fuck with me, and one town cop who would follow me to the town limits EVERY NIGHT hoping I did something so he could pull me. 'Cause you know no sober person is out driving at 3 AM after working in a bar all night. But that's about it. Knock on wood.
