I pretty much agree here. They made him look like a guy that genuinely wanted to improve himself and his country. As far as making him look like an idiot, it was mostly the usual mispronounced/made-up words and butchered expressions that we've all seen on legitimate newscasts.

In fact, there were a lot of negative things about him that they left out entirely (you don't see any drugs) or glossed over very quickly (possibly having knocked a girl up). The early years of heavy drinking and whatnot were used more to demonstrate his turnaround and conversion than to make him look bad or irresponsible.

Hell, Karl Rove even came across as an alright guy. A dweeb and political manipulator, sure, but not the cold-blooded John-McCain-has-a-secret-black-daughter fuckwad most of the country (myself included) generally think of.

This is a movie I'll wait to see on cable. I must admit, however, that I have found the commercials for W. to be pretty funny.

Even though Bush has been ridiculed more than his fair share (but he did bring a lot of it on himself), the images from W. with the Talking Heads' "Once in a Lifetime" playing in the background of the commercials made me laugh. In any event, I think Bush will fair better in W. than another Republican president did in the eponymous Nixon.

FWIW, I went to see Max Payne this weekend--apparently, so did a lot of other folks:

'Max Payne' beats out 'W.' at box office

I saw it this weekend. Those people who mad the ridiculous absurd claims on page one about how disgraceful of a movie this is should have waited until they actually had some facts to back up their claims before dismissing this movie as an obvious hit piece. As stated above he actually made him to look like a much better person than you would ever even imagine. I didn't find Oliver Stones statement on the Colbert Report to be sarcastic at all, but that is probably because I watched him say almost the exact same thing on Larry King live about a week prior to that interview.

It was oliver stones comments on how his respect for the man went up that made me want to go out and see this movie. He really was about how he went from point A to point B. As stated earlier, there were a lot of truthful things that could have made bush look worse in the film that they omitted or otherwise glossed over. This movie took me from having no respect for the man to actually being able to relate to him. It does more good for bush's legacy.

To even remotely put this movie and Fahrenheit 9/11 in the same context is inane.

the movie was a complete and utter disappointment

a satire, a comedy, but i would not believe anything i saw as credible

the director definitely had a political agenda and instead of letting the public decide what they thought of W. they went ahead and portrayed him as moronic - to say the least

it was unbelievable and boring

and yes i never voted for bush
