I used to work on this electrical construction crew, a mixed-race crew of six dudes,
we'd drive in a big F-350 dually together, all over the state to different plants to
work one project or another.

on teh way thru a McDonalds run, someone got a happy meal, and the toy inside
was a Power Ranger action figure, the white one.



he became our mascot, and we dubbed him the "White Power .... ranger"

(we would speak it with the ellipsis, and lowercase 'ranger')

I taped our "White Power... ranger" to the truck antenna with electrical tape, and
positioned him so his right arm/fist was extended in a white power salute.

the two black guys laughed, but i think they were nervous. i guess they would be
since they were helpers while the foreman and two electricians were white, and
we're driving them around in work truck all over hells creation.

finally the other helper, a white guy, beheaded the "White Power ... ranger,"
removed his limbs, burned his trunk and retaped his smoldering remains to the
antenna in an "expression of solidarity with the oppressed peoples of the world"

i never forgave him for that.



naw, not really. it was all fun and games, right?

naw, we had a good relationship. I wasnt their "boss-boss", like i couldnt fire (or hire) anyone. and
everyone fucked with everyone pretty damn equally. it was just a joke that went on a little too long.

and they fucked with me back -- they started callin' me "shitty britches" or "skids" cause i had a bad
case of the sharts after some nasty mexican food somewhere in eastern NC. what sucked for
them, was they were my helpers trapped with me 50 feet in the air on a boom lift when it hit me.
