my 16 GB zen can play the iTunes specific formats, it's the only non-apple product that can make that claim.

^ Who uses those formats, anyhow?

I don't really want the screen, either

though my dad watches movies on his while he is on the plane: that's sorta cool

I just stick to music, plus the shuffle has my music sorted however I sorted it on iTunes, so I can always find what it is I wanted to listen to, if it's something specific

can the bigger ones do that, too?

because 16gb isn't nearly enough

and really, less than 1% of what i have is in itunes formats

most of it is shit i have on vinyl that i wanted to snag before i got my usb turntable

orly

cool

I believe that the Zens also feature a removable battery that you can have replaced when it eventually dies, rather than paying 50 dollar bucks to get a clean iPod with no music on it...I thought mine did but apparently it doesn't, so maybe the larger models can. Mine is about as big as my thumb.

if you want to ever look at pictures or video on your player, the screen is more brillant on the creative players. that's the point. just looking at the displays between the ipod and the creative players, most people i've talked to said the creative player looks better.

and i've had 0 problem with the 3 or 4 creative players i've owned.

You realize you can use ANY mp3 service right? The Zune software IS pretty damn awesome though, far and away the best software experience for syncing and purchasing.

Too bad the zune is like 3rd or 4rd on my list of players.

Zen's have better color depth. But they are the same resolution and same contrast/brightness.

However the iPod touch uses a glass screen, which makes it a HELL of a lot better for viewing. No constant smudging or scratching worries.

that's the one that plays iTunes format. they've had a new product since that was released, but i don't know anything about that one. it comes in up to 32 GB, the worlds first 32 GB flash player.

it is also SD expandable.

some zens feature removable batteries. i don't think any of their flash players do, but then again, i haven't seen a single flash player that features that.

my first zen had one.

Define smudging...cause the iPod screens I see are always dirty from fingerprints and the like.

Not that it matters if you're not interested in looking at pictures and shit.

Plus, you get a lot more looks if you have a Creative.

I used to be anti-apple. I bought a Creative Zen Vision: M because it was the best competitive product to an iPod at the time I was shopping.

The good things about the creative:

sound quality
file support (mainly drm'd napster to go subscription wma files)

the bad, or piss poor things:

the fucking UI
the fucking UI
the fucking UI
the fucking battery life

All of the poor things i thought i could deal with, and then I got an iphone. Once I got the iphone, I started using itunes (which isnt great, but it's ok).

All of the CVM's UI issues became immediately apparent once I actually USED an ipod/iphone. I can't tell you how many times I accidentally bought a song I had from N2G instead of trying to find the associated album. The minor annoying shit that costs you money will make more of an impact on your opinion than anything else. It's only 99 cents, but it's 99 cents i didnt want to fucking spend, often on songs that I DONT like at all.

Do NOT waste your money on any other mp3 player that isn't made by Apple.

looks like it also has the ability to sync wirelessly with your computer, as well as instant message from your player.

not that anyone would really want to do the latter...

i've never had any issues with buying things i didn't need while using my creative player. i've never had issues making playlists or anything of the sort.

the built in speaker is just another feature it has to put it over the iPod. i'm sure you've had a situation where you wanted to share your music with a friend, and a speaker could have come to aid.

but if i have to sacrifice half of my needed storage for a speaker

I do...but I prefer to use the mp3 thats directly related to whatever mp3 player I buy. When I first got my ipod I loaded all the mp3s I had downloaded over the years and it was just a clusterfuck. I used rhapsody before I switched over to using itunes.

If you factor out the cost...I think itunes is the best...but damn the cost. I might have to go to an alternative route. Anyone have any suggestions??

more features != better.

And if you want to share a song with a friend, you just send it to them via the WIFI built into the iPod touch. (actually I have no idea if you can do this, but damn you should, and ill bet you will be able to with a jailbroken app or appstore).

Will the iPod support the appstore? if so, it's the hands down winner over any competition.

32 GB is the most you'll get out of a flash player. flash technology is faster than the hard drives, and it is also more reliable (you drop a HD or expose it to magnetism, you might have lost your data.)

You get more out of that mp3 player than the speaker. you get the best sound quality availible in any mp3 player.

wow, i'm elitest because I didn't want to use the buggy as fuck iTunes or iPod. My roommate freshman year had tons of problems, such as iTunes adding every song to his iPod three times that he then had to manually remove via iTunes.

I don't even see why we're trying to argue with a fan boy who hasn't seen the Creative stuff himself:

Quote :
"why would i talk you out of it

ipods are wonderful things

i got my first one in 2002

and it instantly became my favorite possession, even though it was fucking huge"

Multiple people talk about the bad UI for iPods, and one person says Creative has a bad UI and you jump all over that.

They're subscription based, and there is a menu option right underneath "More from this artist."

The input method sucks, because it's a touch strip that you slide your finger up and down, and then tap instead of using a hardkey to interact with. Taps are often interpreted as "slide, then tap." It's a poor user experience that is normally overlooked outside of the specific instance that I encountered. If the UI were being evaluated, and Tapping to advance to the next menu item or screen were a task, then I PROMISE you that 95% of the users would have a failure rate at or above 75%.

Also, don't try to talk shit to me about this, I obviously know more about it than you.

and my fingers are nowhere near as fat as your mom is.

I've also never had one of those models either, but you can go ahead and get off your elitist UI designer high horse, kthx.

Creative found the slide to be a problem, and corrected it by putting buttons instead of the touchpad they once had all of their players going to. the interface with the buttons seems to work great

i have a cheap little mp3 player, but the reason i'm buying this one is b/c i'm running out of room to put CDs in my car, so 4gb, or even a touch at 32gb wouldn't be enough since the only reason i'm buying it is to be a music library.

at least in regards to my decision, that's irrelevant b/c sansa doesn't make a player of adequate size.
