How young did you have to be to actually enjoy/have fond memories of GB2?

though i'm totally psyched about this, are we going to get peter venkman, or are we going to get wes anderson era murray? I'm really excited either way, but I'm curious to see how murray pulls off that kind of transition. I'm sure it'll be great.

Quote :
"It’s official! Meet your new Ghostbusters! Paul Feig, the director of the upcoming reboot, just took to Twitter to reveal his new cast. Headlining the supernatural comedy are Kristen Wiig (Bridesmaids, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty), Melissa McCarthy (The Heat, Tammy), Leslie Jones (“Saturday Night Live,” Top Five) and Kate McKinnon (“Saturday Night Live,” Life Partners).

A remake of director Ivan Reitman’s 1984 comedy classic, Feig’s take on the property is said to be targeting a scarier tone that will not maintain any continuity with the original film or its 1989 sequel (or the surprisingly continuity-heavy animated series “The Real Ghostbusters,” for that matter).

Back in September, original Ghostbusters star Bill Murray revealed his own “fan cast” for a female-driven franchise reboot, which included both McCarthy (his St. Vincent co-star) and Wiig alongside Linda Cardinelli (“Freaks and Geeks,” “Mad Men”) and Emma Stone (The Help, The Amazing Spider-Man).

Plans call for Ghostbusters to shoot this summer in New York."

Yeah, if you're going with an all women cast for a comedy like this, that lineup is pretty hard to beat.

misogyny?

you literally don't know anything about the story other than there will be 4 leads who happen to have vaginas

I base my opinion on the track record of all the shitty reboots that have been released as of late. Has nothing to do with the parts being played by women and everything to do with the current environment in which these movies are being made.

The only way this movie would likely be any worse is if Michael Bay directed it.

I'm behind this. I like this better then them casting 4 dudes and trying to recreate the originals (or even pass them off as a sequel). Kind of like a fresh start. I'll be able to still love the original two and view this independently.

How does this ruin your childhood? (and how old were you when the original came out)

I have fond memories of seeing the original in the theatre. And i know this won't possibly be as good as the original.... but i have no problem with it and am curious. But Melissa McCarthy?

I have no problems with this. It is obvious that the original cast wasn't going to get it done. Best to scrap the old universe and start anew. If it works well, then we'll have more, and they hopefully won't suck like the original GB2.

curious, why did they cast all women for the roles? I would think that a mixed gender cast would've been better for a Ghostbusters movie, but what do I know

Yep, called it. . . Melissa McCarthy. Here is an early pre-production shot of her on set:

I hated her in Bridesmaids. The movies Tammy/Identity_Theft/The_Heat made me cringe at her performance in the trailers alone. She always plays the same character, though I cannot comment on her performance in St. Vincent which looked a little different. Pretty sure she is going to play the same character yet again since this will be a comedy (albeit "darker", though I doubt it).

As per the all-women cast, I'll hold my judgement, but the reasons are fairly transparent and speaks of the Hollywood laziness in terms of the creation of female characters and attempting to attract an audience.

I like Wiig too...but the other two are fucking horrible. Or McCarthy is okay in certain roles...but I would definitely worry about this one.

And Jones is abysmal. She's only good for loud, angry black woman roles...which is what she is.

hate wiig and mccarthy. Don't even know the other two but having wiig and mccarthy makes this a no watch for me. Has nothing to do with the fact that they're women. Has more to do with the fact that their over-the-top retard comedy is not funny to me.

thegoodlife3's worldview:

you can only hate this movie because of sexism

you can only hate obama because of racism

you can only hate the poor because of classism

etc etc etc

oh! i almost forgot-
