the tone, you got it all wrong

Quote :
"people pay serious bucks to go to school and learn something. if the professor can't convey the subject matter with enough clarity, and his students repeatedly perform poorly over a long period of time, it reflects more poorly on him than it does on the students.

as far as the grade distribution, that should have been a warning sign, but often scheduling conflicts force students to bite the bullet and take the professor with the poor grade distribution. There shouldn't BE issues like this in the first place. Blaming it on the student for not taking the "easy way out" is erroneous to the overarching issue."

I agree, you can't blame the student. Sometimes professors just are not clear enough to convey the idea. One size doesn't fit all!

You pay for quality instruction, which this guy obviously does not give. Maybe a few people understand him, but that's not good enough to keep him around.

I so wish I could get on some sort of curriculum and education committee and force a bunch of people into retirement. As it is I'll probably stop with the one that's causing me the most trouble, and hope the others will be scared enough to behave.

Didn't you learn anything from the "lost exam" episode? The most important thing I've learned while at State is that when you have the opportunity to work the system in your favor, then do it. Should have BSed your way into at least 1 semester withdrawal.

Did you have the class with this student? Do you know his experience? It doesn't sound like it.

My point is that you can't know either way, but the numbers shown on the GD Reports don't reflect well on the Professor... neither does the anecdotal evidence of him "losing" a test.

Heatwole did give quality information. He gave plenty of information. The reason why so many people struggled in his classes is because every question on tests were essay questions. Points added up for the amount of information you could recall and you knew.

He also gave the TAs copies of the tests and told them to have review sessions for every test.

People are just mad that he didn't give mutiple choice questions so they could bubble in and leave.

Losing a test is not evidence of that.

If there is a valid claim of aging out, then yes take it up w/ the college dean. If you have a valid foot to argue this, do so. Just don't use reason of "paying for learning" or "it's too hard."

If anything it was Karma for knowingly lying to a Professor in order to get a decent grade.

^all I said was that it didn't reflect well on the professor. and it was anecdotal anyways so it means very little.

Oh yeah...aside from a few good grades, Heatwole's Zo 150 being one of them, I totally made my parents proud by having one semester of no passing grades. 2 semesters of less than 50% passing grades, and one semester where I came out 50/50.

Too bad I already had all those bad grades before I took that class. Or else it would've been Karma. Plus I have enough good Karma to cancel that one out.

You really are trying to make me feel bad about that one aren't you?

I guess you forgot to realize that he said the only reason he is going to make sure I had a B average is because all of my other test grades were good and I only missed two days of class that semester. He would have done the same thing if I didn't even mention the test grade.

I don't feel bad at all about that one.

Well, he has just accepted his grade and moved on. He is not the type to go against the dean. But, he is having a hard time finding work though. Totally killed his chances of any future possibilities.

not at all

but i'm trying to get you to acknowledge that lying is wrong. You can't tell this kid how easy the class was when the only reason you did well was because you lied to get a B.

I could give a shit whether you feel bad about it or not, because obviously you don't and probably never will.

Heh, if someone offered me a good grade in a course I'd be a fool to turn it down!

school's only purpose is to get the degree and make contacts. Beyond that, 95% of what is actually useful you will have to learn on the job.

WHAT? one grade ruining work? That make NO sense.

I wouldn't just accept it if you have a valid complaint. Deans/assistants are there for YOU. They are more than willing to discuss anything w/ you. They need to hear feed back--if it is valid.

Man the fuck up, if you are not full of shit.

I would have had a good grade regardless, at least C wall. That one grade is not the only reason I did well. He gave 4 or 5 tests, therefore ONE high D isnt going to bring my grade down that much, especially when I made an A on my final.

Lying is not always wrong. Anyone will tell you that.

Tell your friend to retake the class if it really ruined his life.

that's not even a skewed distribution. i remember MAE classes with 70% of the grades being D or F. I remember others where it was pretty much 20% in each grade.

also, if you're too dumb or lazy to check grade distributions before enrolling in the section, well, i don't know how to help you.

The thing is, I have seen this guy work and he worked his ass off. I looked at his answers the ones he got D's and C' and the answers were all right. But, not to his level of detail so he didn't give him full credit. So, that is why he got bad grade in the class. I feel bad for him.

I just wanna know if there is way to get rid of these professors. Obviously, they can't teach. Ruining people's records. I mean they worked hard to get into the school. Now, there degree really doesn't mean anything if it doesn't have good grades.
